How well does you WiFi work?

Here at the college, they had 2 WiFi's, one for students and staff, another for guests. To use the student one, you use you student ID and a password to log on. The guest one you logged by providing an email address. It worked well most of the time, you'd get bumped off maybe 2-3 times in a week. Some buildings had more problems than others. The building I'm in now, for some reason it only worked 1/4 of the time. Other buildings were up 75% or better.

So now they've implemented a new WiFi, this one is supposed to be faster, more stable and more secure. You set up the configuration so all you have to do is connect to it, without a log in screen first. The new one sucks, you lose connection at least 3-5 times a day or more, doesn't matter where you are. It goes down, gives you messages like "Your wireless network settings do not match those of (Name) network". Or it goes down, and then you try to connec to the older student one or the guest one, and they won't show up in the wireless network available screen, and when that happens you can't connect at all to the new one. When that happens it can take up to 1/2 hour before you can connect to any of the networks. And about 1/4 the time, you need to connect to the guest one, then the new one to get the WiFi to work.

This isn't just my computer, anyone you talk to says the same thing, they can't get on the new one, the guest one doesn't work, the old student one denies access, or just the new one shows up and nothing else. But then again the the IT staff here sucks. Last semester the GF was taking a class on another campus closer to home. She couldn't get on the WiFi there at all, she went to IT, the staff there spent 1/2 trying to get her computer to connect and they couldn't do it. They then told her she could leave her computer with them for a few hours and they would see what they could do. We went there later that day, and I got both of ours to connect within 5 minutes.

So, anyone else have crappy networks they rely on? On the other hand, my home WiFi rarely goes down, and when it does I can get it back up 90% of the time, the other 10% when I can't always has to do with the internet provider.

My WiFi network works fine for my Playstaion and phone.

But, then again, I don't have several hundred if not several thousand people trying to log into it with computers, gaming systems, phones, coffee pots, bong pipes, vibrators and God knows what else. That's what I suspect, purely on no real information on the situation, is happening here. The network simply cannot handle the huge demand on it.

The wifi where I went to college was absolutely terrible. Dial-up was faster. But, there was probably one router for 10,000 people, so go figure.
