How well can you sing?

I have a pleasant voice and perfect pitch, but my range sucks. Give me the right song in the right key and it sounds great, but anything too far from that, and I move quickly into strangled cat territory. I'd rate myself a 4-5, but then I think of all the talentless drones making millions in the recording industry and think maybe I'm underestimating myself.

I was an 8 or a 9 years ago. I sang and made a good living at it. Then i became a "responsible adult and parent" and stopped singing/performing. Damaged my vocal chords at some point and can no longer sing without pain. It really sucks. It's so hard to listen to music and not be able to sing along with it! So, now im a big fat 0 when it comes to the original question.

I hate my voice. I sound like a 45-rpm single being played at 33. I can't even stand to hear myself talk (God knows how anyone else can). And if I try to sing? Forget it. I'd bring the house down with laughter. I have this ridiculously low octave, kind of like the bass line in "Sussudio". :alienblush:

When I was actually studying voice in college, I'd have put myself in the 8-9 range. Now... probably around a 5. I don't sing much at all and I know I've lost nearly all of my high range, which is sad because I was able to do that coloratura thing. Now I can't hit the highest note in "Bohemian Rhapsody". :( (And karaoke I'd give myself a -18934785!)

People are way too critical about themselves at karaoke imo, I've only been a couple times but imo most people actually do really ok there and nobody gives a shit anyway.

I would rate myself a 7. With a good warm up and the right melody, maybe a 8.

As an Italian, I consider my sacred duty to sing melodramatic opera song at the slightest provocation. My rendition of Nessun Dorma is not half bad.

I'd say 1 or maybe 2 at best. I do tend to sing along to whatever is playing while alone in the car though:)

Negative 10. When I was in 5th Grade, I was put into the chorus for a school play; the teacher took me aside and told me to just move my lips.

On the plus side, I'm told I talk real good. Hardly a day goes by without somebody telling me I should be in radio. If I had lived in the days of the Old Radio Shows, I could probably have made a living at it.

:D

If a 10 is only "very good", then I guess I'm a 10. But if a 10 is an opera singer, closer to 7.
Range tends to be around 2 and 1/2 octaves.

There seems to be a lot of singing talent out there. Perhaps a charity single could be on the cards...? ;)
