How to meet other fans?

Oh, another thing that works great for me... wear or display something Trek in public, so long as you're comfortable with that. And I don't mean full uniform (though you do you).
I have an NX-01 baseball cap (which basically gets no comments, probably obviously) but my Star Trek license plate gets TONS of comments. Almost every time I go out, seemingly, today included. Always the most pleasant of conversations with really nice people, most people happy to simply say how they used to watch the show, or more recently "Have you seen Picard season 3!"
I'm shocked at how many random people watch the new stuff, I would have guessed just us people posting on the board

Nerding in public definitely helps. I met my best friend in junior high because she saw me reading a Marvel comic in the cafeteria (or maybe it was a Doc Savage novel) and introduced herself.

And even today I've ending talking to people just by wearing a STAR TREK tee-shirt in public (or GODZILLA or THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON). At the grocery store, the bank, the post office, airports, voter registration drives, etc. Sometimes this even leads to last friendships. I'm still friends with a comic-book fan I met while volunteering for the local Democratic Party, and a Trekkie I met on a cross-country flight.

Oh, one more thought: maybe your local library or college has an SFF book club or something?

I was a big reader of the Doc Savage (Bantam reprint paperback novels). I dressed up as Doc Savage for a big Halloween Party in my college dorm circa 1977...nobody got it.
