How to download a radio programme...

An Officer

I want to download a particular radio program from the BBC iPlayer (apparently, this one is not a podcast). Since it is a streaming show, I have not been able to locate it in my temporary media files. I have already tried using both Audacity and iPlayer downloader to retrieve it, but to no avail.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can do it?

Just to make things a little more difficult, they will be taking it down tomorrow at noon, after which it will be lost forever. Here's the link to it, btw, for reference if anyone needs to see it:

^The BBC purposefully make it very hard to download both television and radio programming from iPlayer to keep. To the best of my knowledge, no-one has found a way to do it reliably.

They keep it up for a week anyway, so why not allow access for a little longer? It's a payed for public service. In any case, I really need to get a hold of this, if anybody prefers to PM me instead, please feel free.

Right now, I'm contemplating blasting it from the desktop speakers, then recording it on my mobile phone... suffice to say the quality would be appalling...

Programming on iPlayer is available for one week after broadcast for streaming and one month for downloading. The files you download, however, use DRM software to ensure that they are unplayable after that month.

In fact, after looking at your link, it's asking you to use RealPlayer which makes the problem possibly even worse.

Well if you just want the one show couldn't you resort to just recording the computer's playback?

I was hoping for something a little smoother, but never mind. Fat lot of good you lot were! :p
Well, they've gone to a lot of effort to make it hard for you to get a copy, so unless you can find a version that's been ripped online already it's not going to be a simple task.

What didn't work for you? I don't have Audacity in front of me right now but there's a pulldown menu that sets the input. Recording computer noises isn't the default, so mess with that till you find the one that does it and hit record. Audacity is far and away the best freeware program for this kind of thing.

Thank you for your suggestions everybody, I appreciated them all. A kind soul came along to help me out with this - all is finally sorted. :D
