How to catch a Post Mail Thief?

While we're on the vein of illegal solutions that you would obviously NEVER try in real life...here's the one that popped into my head...

Envelope + white powder = panic.

(Disclaimer: Above solution is illegal. Do NOT try, even with innocuous substances!)

Here's one, but you need a family member or buddy to make it work right: Report a serious checks missing possibly stolen (say a three or four in a sequence) to the bank and/or lawenforcement. Then proceed to made that sequence of checks to a friend or relative-- make sure they know what you're doing. Make sure to mail then in something like a greeting card, something screams "hey they might be money in here!". The thief goes to cash in, they run the number and, hopefully, the bank catches them for ya.

Sort of how my grandfather caught one of the grandkids cashing in his checks.

When I worked security in my college years we had a powder that only shows up under black light. We would sprinkle it on tempting items and if they would disappear we would check employee time cards with the black light to see if was an inside job.

This looks like the stuff we used.

The powder idea would work great if it was someone in your building that was stealing the mail. You could check the door handles of the apartments to see if any of them have the powder, and then you'd know whoever lives there has been the thief.

^Well you don't necessarily need to go to the police after that. Once you know who it is you can reevaluate and perhaps think up a new plan to catch them. Without knowing who it is, there's not a whole lot you can do.

Nothing yet. Wondering where I can find this Powder. Police here don't have it but I'm waiting to see if someone from my home country can send it over.

But I will catch this frakker.
