How old have your cats lived?

At what age did your cats die?

My old cornish rex, Ember, lived to be about 18 or so. He was a de-clawed, neutered, indoor cat, but as we got him from a shelter and loved to try to run out the door, its a safe bet he was on the street at one point.

First kitty had seizures and went deaf around 15 and died at 17. Second kitty had a broken heart and died 8 days later at 14. :(

Current kitty is happy, healthy and going on 6-ish (he was adopted...we don't know his exact age).

My mom cleaned my cats ears out right before she got sick, and now I think she is 90% deaf. :(

We never had any issues with cats until they were at least 10, unless they were homeless and we took them in.

My mother's cat, a tortoise shell manx with a really nasty disposition, lived to about 21. She was an indoor/outdoor cat. I think she was just too ornery to die.

Did I mention she was really mean?

My grandparents had a scared cat, and it died the most peaceful, in a box in the basement when he was asleep, my dad then just closed the box and buried her out back.

My wife's two cats will be 6 soon.

Your wife's cats? Interesting phrasing... ;)

My 18 year old keeps getting bladder infections and I'm afraid it will be kidney disease.

It was our first proper marriage compromise...she wanted a cat, I didn't want a cat, so we compromised she got 2 cats...*sigh*...

I love your wife!!! :)

First cat died at 16. She was perfectly healthy until we moved into a new house. I think the shock of moving made her ill because she died 2 weeks later.

My second cat died at 8 because he had cancer. It was very sad. He was a good cat. The first cat was kind of a bitch.

I have a new kitty now (the first that I've had on my own since moving out of my parents' house). She's a little more than 1 year old.

None of the cats I've had in my life died from natural causes. My first cat, Toby, disappeared, came back weeks later and then disappeared again.

My second cat and third cats, Rosie and Ani died after being hit by cars in the street outside my house.

My current cat, Sid, is alive and well. Though he's very much an indoor cat.

Shade is about 11 and is ill, according to the vet, but doesn't act it. she's got narrowed bile ducts and a swollen liver (though it's going down) but she's still full of vim and vigour.

My family has had many cats and some have lived to be quite old. The only one whose age I'm sure of is Mitzy, who died last summer; she was seventeen.

When Felix was having his seizures, he would go temporarily blind for a short time afterward.

It was sad to see him convulse and almost sadder to see him recover and yet still walk into things he couldn't see were there. :(

Oh she can see, she just can't jump onto high things with confidence now, so we put a chair for her to use as a halfway because we're soft in the head.

While growing up, we had a cat live to be 18, and two others live to be 17. The cat I recently lost was 15, and the one I still have is 7.

I'm liking the high numbers I keep seeing posted. :)

Our cats are 6 & 1/2 and just shy of 6 (they're about six months apart) and...

...Frankly, I'm not prepared to accept anything but a healthy long lived cat. Nope. No other such existence is allowed. So when I see numbers like 12 and 13, I ignore them. I much prefer 18 and 20. ;)

One family cat, born 1983, died 2001 (aged 18). She was older than me :) My parents had one cat before her. I don't know how long she lived, but it wasn't that long, maybe 10 years.

I don't have any pets of my own.

I'd be interested to know if city cats live longer or shorter than village/country cats.

Well, the first cat I had was put down due to it turning completely crazy when we moved house.
The cat in my life now just turned 11.

20 years, 6 months, 5 days

Excellent! Ours is 19 this year and still going strong, although she has cataracts forming in her eyes so her distance judgement is a bit off.

Well then make sure not to let him/her drive then. :)

Good, after 12 a few die, but they show signs that something is wrong.

Most of the time, unless hit by a car, a cat should live 15 years easily. I would like to see a lot more 20+ numbers myself.

My Tasha lived to 26.

She walked just like my grandmother towards the end... kinda sideways. :p

I've never owned a cat, but my younger sister has two cats. Sadly, one of them died from pneumonia when he was barely 6 months old. :(
