How not to write a Stargate movie

The OP is the perfect example of what a fanboi is.
The OP also has every right to express his opinion - pro or con - on the series.

Everyone get away from focusing on the poster, and please concentrate on the topic instead. If that proves too difficult, feel free to skip the thread.

I'm fed up with the SG-1 franchise, can't stand watching it any more, hoping it'll go back to being good. Just seen Continuum for the first time. FFS. I can't believe it but it's actually WORSE than Ark of Truth (IMO).

What is it with these braindead producers? Do they honestly think that long, drawn out walks along massive landscapes constitutes anything particularly good, clever or original? No. Boring.

Daniel saying "Oh shit" out of the blue. What was the point, how immature can these writers be?

What's with the mindless and needless gore? Did they really have to chop off the top of Apophis' head? Did they really have to shoot Ba'al in the top of the head? Did they really have to slice Ba'al in half and have him fall into a pool of blood? Again, how immature can these writers be??

O'Neill was once again, the walking joke he was in seasons 7 to 10. Where every word out of his mouth is a sarcastic, piss take, except it seems to be getting more and more annoying the more he's in the show.

I'm fed up of 'explain to these people what SG-1 is, what the Stargate is, who the Goa'uld are. Enough already. How SLOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW were those scenes half way through the film? On the boat, on the ice, took forever just to get a few sentences out.

The entire middle 30 minutes or so. BOOOOOORRRRRRINNNNNGGG... Seriously, at NO time during 10 years was an episode EVER as boring and dull as the middle third of Continuum.

Added to the pointless "kewl" armada of ships that served no purpose but to give the writers wank fantasies... - the ridiculously gay tank top that Ba'al had to wear on his ship... are we REALLY supposed to take this dull waste of space seriously? I miss the likes of Apophis, Anubis, Heru'ur etc...

Ending on the photo of Mitchell and his grandad. Cliche #4353.

The time travel chamber was cool, but the endless shooting was exactly the same as what we've been watching for years. The slow-motion main characters getting shot... again, rehashed, old, tired, stupid.

Daniel telling off the president: the perfect way of making Daniel even more annoying than he was in the last 3 years.

Awful. Pure garbage. When will they let this once outstanding franchise DIE already.

Why should a franchise have to die to satisfy a critic such as you? Just simply stop watching it! It won't annoy you any longer, and those that do enjoy SG-1 can do so. Everyone wins.

Um, who moved my last post to this topic?

Isn't it clear for all to see that one was talking about Continuum, one was a totally different matter... talking about the Atlantis episode Broken Ties?

I thought it was a dramatic improvement on Ark of truth.

There was one scene that fits this description to my recollection, and it lasted all of 40 seconds. And it was kind of necessary for the story. Besides, I think a nice epic 'were screwed' scene in the Arctic was pretty cool.

Daniel saying "Oh shit" out of the blue. What was the point, how immature can these writers be?

I didn't see immaturity, I saw them finally being able to have a character react how normal people do to impending doom. I'd swear. The reason it jarred in this instance was because we've seen these characters not swearing to 10 years. So it seems out of character.

Needless gore? I hardly think it was gory. The violence was pretty clean really, they could have gone a lot more disgusting than they did. The Apophis death was a setup for the 'off the top of your head' line. Shooting in the head make ssense for a creature who has great ability to heal, yet, as we saw earlier in the film, resides in the head and hence is vulnerable there. The slicing in half was just a way to do an intersting death, and setup the scene wehre he talks to Teal'c with the sword through him. wouldn't really have worked with say a hand device.

O'Neill was once again, the walking joke he was in seasons 7 to 10. Where every word out of his mouth is a sarcastic, piss take, except it seems to be getting more and more annoying the more he's in the show.

First scene, I agree, but I thought alternate-O'Neill on the submarine was pretty much good old O'Neill.

Quite untrue. Did you watch Bane? And the middle section wasn't action packed, but you jsut told them off for being immature. If it had been loads of action in the middle, you'd have cried foul over that, too. I thought the way they did the middle bit was the most 'realsitic' (if you can say that in this context) portrayal of an 'alternate universe''s reaction to SG-1 showing up they've done. Not bending over backwards to do what they say, but actually decidign they liek their world the way it is.

Added to the pointless "kewl" armada of ships that served no purpose but to give the writers wank fantasies...

A fleet designed to be seen as bigger than we've seen before, including Anubis' fleet, and show how ba'al now controls the entire Goa'uld fleet.

- the ridiculously gay tank top that Ba'al had to wear on his ship...

The costume was pretty decent looking, I thought, appropriate to the character and the fact that Ba'al historically was a god of hedonistic sex.

Daniel telling off the president: the perfect way of making Daniel even more annoying than he was in the last 3 years.

Again, realistic character response - how would you respond in such a situation? I'd say 'i told you so' too.

Neroon did, and he finally did something right.

There is no need for 5 different topics all bashing Stargate all saying the same thing just dealing with a different episode/movie.

Is anyone else getting sick and tired of the EXACT SAME Wraith base/ship infiltration storyline?
Yes. But Joe Flanigan is in the show, so I must keep watching. I have no free will where Joe is concerned.

However, I've completely and permanently given up on SG-1. Even Browder can't lure me back. You are the final holdout. Never give up! Never surrender! :rommie:

Does that mean all the threads praising Stargate get consolidated, too? That would mean two threads in this forum, tops. That would be fun!

We have threads praising Stargate?

:guffaw:

And the ones praising it, and complaining about it at least are done by different people at different times. Nuts just starts 5 topics about the same thing exact thing, some random episode sucks, the movie sucks. Just have those talks in the movie topic, and the episode topic.

Flanigan is one of the best things about the show I agree, however... browder?? Surely not.

Nicely said.

Nerroon, let the merging begin so we can only have 1 pro thread and 1 con thread woohoo!

In the last four pages, I've started a thread bashing Continuum (it deserved it), a thread questioning the variety of Wraith storylines, and a topic querying the decision to have a 1 hour series finale. Hardly "5 topics about the same exact thing".

Re: Repetitive

Just watched Atlantis Season 5 episode "Broken Ties".

Is anyone else getting sick and tired of the EXACT SAME Wraith base/ship infiltration storyline? It feels like I've watched the same episode 20 times.

Awful episode. Luckily the next one is fantastic.

Can't you make that same argument when SG-1 was in it's fifth year and they were still doing the Gould base/ship infiltration storyline which had about the same variation to it that Atlantis does with their version of it?

Sorry about this, as I should have explained earlier. It's been that kind of day. I was trying a new technique for merging threads, but neglected to post in one that's what was being done.

Everyone else, you need to allow for the possibility of people not caring for the show. For what it's worth, Kpnuts is on record as liking other seasons. Consider what it'd be like yourself to see something you greatly enjoy going down the drain.

Kpnuts, you ought to consider the other side as well, regarding the sheer frequency of such threads.

This ain't kindergarten. Just a place to talk about Stargate, so treat it as such and not as a referendum on a tremendously moral issue.

I just wanted to say that I quite liked Continuum and enjoyed the "gore" and even the swearing. I am however glad they haven't resorted to something as purely attention grabbing as say, full frontal nudity in the direct to DVD movies. Nudity has no place in Stargate....... ;)

It's certainly indicative of something about what is culturally accepted when the producers decide to put Stargate forward into the unrated zone and they feel the obligation to add more swearing and violence (Continuum, Ark of Truth), but eliminate any nudity (Children of the Gods: Remastered).

Cadman was great. The episode about the bomb in Atlantis that she has a role in is one of my favourite episodes of SGA.
