When participating in the various discussions here at the TrekBBS I get the feeling that some, or maybe many, members are mostly watching an episode or movie to check this fact or that, trying to figure out barely discernible voice-overs or the infamous "Star Ship Status Chart" from Court Martial - doing "research" for one project or other. While this is no doubt a lot of fun (I frequently do it myself :)), I am curious as to how often you are watching an episode / movie for pure enjoyment - sit back with your favourite beverage and just immerse yourself into the Trek universe, in whichever incarnation.

At the moment I watch an episode or two a week, mostly TOS with the occasional ENT and a movie every now and then. Twenty years ago it was more like two to three a day, but that was before I had a familiy ;)

What about you?

If I understand the question correctly, my approximate percentage of watching for enjoyment is 113.2758%

...and I share your pain...I had to cut down from a Season per week-end to something more manageable...it was intense...I had VHA (Virtual Holo-Addiction...wait...) and would randomly break into character for whatever iteration I was watching...my poor corner grocer and friend Bilal almost called the police when I went shopping there once and popped up from behind the counter, doing the "...you dint expeck to fine me here..." monologue from STWOK...poor guy...'bout shit a brick...

I have never watched any episode for anything but the entertainment value. I like the scientific and technological aspects of Star Trek, but they are better served in written form in my opinion (novels, technical manuals, gaming material).

On the other hand, I think nowadays I watch two or three episodes a year, so I might not be best person to ask this. My interest in the actual series (opposed to the shared narrative universe, which I still enjoy very much) has taken a nosedive in recent years.

STAR TREK: The Next Generation is entertainment, at its finest! And that's the only reason why I watch it. The only time I put a show on for "research" purposes, was because someone on here - I honestly forget who, now - posted that CODE of HONOR was "racist," and as I hadn't seen the show in a while I wasn't sure what the hell they were even talking about. When I watched it, I didn't get a racist vibe from it, but the episode was weak and I won't pretend otherwise. And for me, personally, watching L'Waxana Troi's embarassingly public display of Mid-Life-Crises every time she's on is not a plus for me. It's especially bad when it's embedded in episodes that have interesting elements to them. So, TNG's not without its flaws, but I tell ya ... the Good outweighs the Bad by quite a lot. I'm very entertained by this series and it never gets old, for me. And so many great actors of the 90's and later got their start on this show - like Kirstin Dunst, for example. TNG's great stuff!

I watched TNG excessively in the 90´s but didn´t upgrade to DVD after VHS, so I have hardly watched any of it in the past ten years. I´m not sure, how I´d like it today ...

1-2 episodes per week (on MeTV Saturdays @ 9 pm). I have really enjoyed seeing TOS in the weekly format. It is something I look forward to each week, just as it was originally aired. Enjoyment is the only reason I have ever watched Trek.

On days when I don't have any social plans after work I tend to sit down in front of the computer and put Netflix/Hulu on the right side of the screen and browse internet forums on the left side. That Netflix is very often Star Trek.

I'm never just going through episodes to check on facts for some discussion on the forum though. If I want to check facts there are online resources that will get me there faster.

Depends on what I'm working on, honestly, If I'm in the middle of a big Trek project, I'll watch some of my favorite TOS eps and movies for inspiration--and to get back into a Trekkie groove. And I'll definitely check out specific eps for research purposes.

But if I'm writing Godzilla or Warehouse 13 or Leverage or whatever, I'll probably immerse myself in those for the duration.

At the moment, I'm gearing up to start writing another Trek book, so I'm watching (and reading) a lot of Trek.

I wish I had the time. I have the first 5 seasons of TNG on Blu-Ray sitting on my shelf and I've barely watched up to season 2 so far.

I watch almost an episode on a daily basis, for fun. About 6 per every 7 days.

I always watch Trek for enjoyment. But I haven't watched an entire episode since 2005. These days (aside from any new movies), my Trek watching is limited to a few minutes of previous movies or random TNG episodes that might be playing on TV somewhere...

I've been a fan of yours since my regular visits to the official forum. Your love for TNG is admirable. Indeed, it is the greatest show ever. Its value knows no borders. Its purity knows no bounds. It never ceases to amaze. TNG trully satisfies ones body, mind and spirit. Its food for ones soul.

I always watch for entertainment. I made the video compilations in my sig (Cheap plug! Click now for awesome discontinuity goodness!), which was a bit of a slog sometimes when looking for a particular phrase or scene, but thanks to online transcripts it was a LOT easier than it might have been.

Oh, during the Starship Size Argument™ I did some 'research' watching of the starship and interior scenes of ST'09 and then later ID, but I enjoyed that too. :)

I did a while ago, and they´re truly hilarious  Thanks a lot for that :techman::techman:

Like I said, watching Trek that way can be a lot of fun too :)
