I can't remember ever watching an episode or movie for "research purposes". Crimey, if I wanted to research something I've plenty of historical topics competing for attention!

Everything I watch is for enjoyment. I've watched about 10 episodes of TNG this week, but that's pretty atypical.

I said 1 - 2 episodes per week, but that isn't true. There should have been an option for "it varies" because for me it does! For example, I like to catch episodes of TNG on BBC America. I'll have them on in the background while I do stuff around the house or I might sit on the couch to take a break with TNG.

But, a couple years ago I started to purposely start re-watching each series. I decided to start with DS9 since it had been a while since I watched DS9 episodes. But, I took my time. Sometimes I'd watch one a day, or two a day. Sometimes I'd go a couple weeks or months between episodes (depending on how busy I was). Then, I finished the series and started watching Voyager. Again, how often I watch an episode varies. I just started season 4 last month, but I just watched episode 3, Day of Honor, tonight 'cause I was in the mood for some Voyager! After I finish Voyager, I'll re-watch Enterprise, then TOS, then TNG. At some point I'll make myself watch the Animated series. I've seen the first episode, but haven't seen any of the other ones. Other than the Animated Series, I've seen every Trek movie and TV episode.

Yeah, I didn't vote in the poll because I needed "It varies," too.

I watch it, whenever possible, for enjoyment. However, sometimes I later have a question about something on the show, so I look it up, in various reference sources. But, I view the episodes for entertainment purposes only.

It varies for me too (I guess it does for most people), so I gave my current average. Maybe I should have included "it varies" as an option, but maybe then everyone would have voted for that and we would be none the wiser ;)

I'll admit sometimes I watch it on Netflix to check if a species ever specified that they control a specific region of space.

Depending on what I have going on, anywhere between 1 and 6, usually on the higher end of things when I'm specifically watching through a series in order (like currently as I'm re-watching Next Gen on the Blu Rays).

But it's all for enjoyment, if I want to look up something strange I'll usually go on Memory Alpha.

I've been a fan of yours since my regular visits to the official forum. Your love for TNG is admirable. Indeed, it is the greatest show ever. Its value knows no borders. Its purity knows no bounds. It never ceases to amaze. TNG trully satisfies ones body, mind and spirit. Its food for ones soul.
It's always great seeing someone post from My Old Stomping Grounds, over there at startrek.com. There were a lot of colourful personalities posting in that forum and it's great being ranked amongst them. I remember how Matthias Russell had this uncanny knack for getting fans excited about posting their ideas about STAR TREK ... even authors who posted there, who come out with all of those official books on the subject. And it never failed to remind me how much I'm a fan of TNG. You know how Music is the Soundtrack to our lives? I know that's kind of corny, but it's true! A song can take you to another place and another time, just like a Space Warp. Just like in STAR TREK. And when there were times in my life when I found my reach exceeding my grasp, where I had to actually stop myself and ask, "is this really me?" ... sooner, or later, STAR TREK was going to be on and I was watching it. And when I felt down, because I don't know, maybe someone died, or my woman left me, guess what? That's right! STAR TREK was "there" to help take the edge off and, in a way, to remind me that even in the midst of all that, I can still relax and unwind ...

I pretty much a Trek episode or film every day. For the past several years it has typically been while I am on a spin bike or on an elliptical machine so I am burning a pile of calories at the same time. It's a great way to spend almost an hour a day.

I'm home an average of 23 hours a day, so I watch a lot of my Star Trek disks. TOS and ENT are the only ones I have full series for, then Season 7's for DS9 and VOY. The only other episodes I have are on about a half-dozen Fan Collective sets. The only film I have on disk presently is ST2009 (and in between scenes now, after Spock tells the Vulcan Science Academy to piss off).

So I sometimes watch 4 or 5 episodes a day, but some days not at all. It's all for enjoyment. Sometimes I might repeat an individual scene 3 or 4 times to study a line delivery, a camera move, or an effects shot. But that's not for any type of technical research.

I don't think any of the poll choices applies to me because over the years it has become my tradition to watch all my favorite episodes every summer in June and July, mostly TNG and this year TOS and DS9 also. On a beautiful summer day it's usually 2xTNG and no matter the weather 1 TOS. Let's see how the DS9 thing goes when it begins...

I always watch for enjoyment. I usually watch less than one a week, but lately I've been watching more TOS due to an online blogger I follow starting the series.

I can relate to what you posted. I sometimes feel like I'm living vicariously through our heroes...if only for a little while. There's a certain indescribable quality that Star Trek (in general...TNG in particular) possesses that other forms of television entertainment lack. This quality is what keeps us begging and coming back for more.
