How much of an adjustment will Emperor Georgiou have?

Lord Garth

Admiral
Admiral
I was just thinking about this. If Emperor Georgiou is working for Section 31, they're still Federation Citizens, they do what they think is necessary but somehow I can't see them eating other sentient life. They'll probably have to tell Emperor Georgiou things like, "Eating Kelpians is bad!"

There are probably also other habits she'll have to change if she's going to be living in the Prime Universe, with Terrans acting so different from TOS Roddenberry Humans (who aren't to be confused with TNG Roddenberry Humans).

What else would she have to give up? And what does she not have to give up that could be channeled into Section 31?

She'll adjust just fine.
The Orion Black Market will supply her with everything she desires and more.

She'll have to remember that you just don't shoot members of the crew because you need some target practice...

(FYI: Before the French Revolution, aristocrats at Versailles sometimes shot at workers in the Versailles gardens just for laughs. Remember that when people ask you what the French revolution was for.)

I'm assuming Starfleet tells her something to the effect of this : "Do what is necessary to protect the Federation, nothing more". Whether she adheres to that, I seriously doubt it.

Agreed. Unless Leland and his ilk have some form of leverage over her (which in itself is unlikely), there's not a chance in hell that MU Georgiou will do anything that Section 31 tells her to.

I mean, even if you believe Section 31's claim (which I consider to be absolute horseshit) that they really do exist to protect Federation interests and not their own, why should MU Georgiou even care what happens to the Federation?

It is a society in which she was never raised, and whose core concepts are utterly abhorrent to her. Generally speaking, people from her universe don't give a frog's fat ass about anyone but themselves. There are individuals from the MU who have demonstrated tendencies towards loyalty, honor and self-sacrifice (such as Captain Forrest from ENT), but these are few and far between. Georgiou is obviously not one of these types. She is a typical thuggish, cruel MU butcher - it's obvious she is never going to care about anything other than her own self-interests. There is literally no reason why Section 31 should ever trust her.

If she gained her "emperorship" by moving up the ranks in the military (or government), until she got high enough in rank to lead a coup, then she should be somewhat experienced with taking orders or compromising in order to get things done. If thats the case, then working with Section 31 might not take as much of an adjustment as it might seem on the surface.

On the other hand, if she "inherited" the job of emperor by birthright, then it's likely she has little to no experience having to accommodate the opinions (or orders), of others.

In any case, she'll have to learn that if she thinks she can do the job better than her superior at 31, she won't be able to just kill him/her, and move into the position herself.

I'm not sure how well-suited Georgiou will be to a role as a spy. I mean, Lorca spent something like half a year impersonating his counterpart without arousing any suspicion, and he was dropped in completely by surprise. Georgiou tried pretending to be a Starfleet captain with prep-time and coaching, and still couldn't last five minutes before firing volleys of wild, dehumanizing racism at the Klingons, and publicly commenting on how much she'd like to butcher and eat her first officer. I suspect her character is in for a retooling in season two to seem more conniving and clever and less thoughtlessly brutal, but I think mirror-Lorca would've been a better fit for this evil frenemy thing they've set up as-is.

agreed.

i’m convinced the producers understand the value of captain georgiou (note her appearance in the latest short trek) and the emperor’s arc will be one of redemption. despite the very clear statement that she’s not the same woman in “will you take my hand?”, if they truly are doing a georgiou spin off, they can’t build a series around the character as she stands now. the genocide, the cannibalism. you can’t handwave that stuff away... but they’ll try.
