How much are you influenced by television?

I'm not influenced at all, but my children Spock, Fonzie, and Trapper John have a different idea about that.

My daughter Marcia-Marcia-Marcia thinks so as well. I've not had a chance to ask my son, as he hasn't returned from his three hour cruise just yet.

Not at all. The only thing commercials are good for is telling me where and what time the movie I want to see is, and I have the internet for that.

I'm not influenced by TV one bit. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to log off of TrekBBS, and go to McDonald's for a Coke.

Influenced by TV? Feh. That's just a load of rich, creamery butter.

I'm watching a show in which people are unclogging drains. I just got up and unclogged the drain to my bathroom sink.

I was just watching a show where some people were reading this thread on their computer.

I haven't watched TV in literally years.

likewise. the last time i watched television was in 2004

I quit in the mid-90's. However, I do watch TV shows on DVD... but only after they've finished their run, and were well liked/loved by a lot of people _that I trust_ (read: no "reality" shows). The only drawback is that I miss many references to commercials and their products in conversations outside of home, as well as any knowledge of the then and/or present current crop of young "stars" (which in turn makes looking at the tabloid covers while standing in lines, very boring). Not to mention I started saving money on going to the movies... if you never hear of something, you don't feel a need to see it. Damn, I've got to start watching TV again! No... wait. It costs money around here to receive an analog signal! *sigh* Guess years and years of Star Trek on DVD will just have to do me. *grin*

Here it costs money to have an internet capable device, a TV-set (no analogue signals around any more anyway) or a radio...
That's what I mean... you gotta' have cable and a convertor!
(Remember when the whole point of cable TV was no commercials?)

We don't have 'cable' as you might know it here, we do -however- have a television licence which everyone able to receive TV* have to pay.
Plus: anyone selling you a TV-set or a (net capable) computer (or -indeed- a 'smartphone' or radio) is by law required to make it known that you own such a device. - Not complaining -I love having two channels of ad-free decent public programming :bolian:

_______
*) Whether it be on a TV-set or via the net; They even call it a media licence now.

Have you considered moving to a civilized country? *grin*

I'd have problems increasing the profits of a seller who is definitely going to rat me out to the evil (*blech-spit-pooey*) taxman (*blech-spit-pooey*).

Our public station (singular) is funded through grants, taxes and begging in place of commercials. And rarely has anything decent on... even if you had a clue what was scheduled. Nope... no broadcast TV for me. DVD's or it's back to the books!
