How many non-Trek fans watch ST movies?

I remember the point being made to me that a movie sugestion was untenable because it would conufse non-ST fans, I still don't think it would have, but it got me thinking, is there a large proportion of non-ST fans that watch the movies?

Paramount once did research that told them that 10% of a ST movie's general audience identify as ST fans. But only 10% of those identify as diehard fans. And only a percentage of those fans are "completist" collectors of ST tie-ins.

Of course, opening night audiences will have many more diehards than normal.

Star IV: The Voyage Home, probably attracted the greatest number of non-trek fans as it was basically a comedy rather than a Star Trek movie.

If they want a hit, they need a comedy where Pine, Quinto, & Company come back to the Year 2008 and, against impossible odds, lower gas prices.
