Arcee will get her own movie! :D Or not.

There was plot in Transformers that needs to be respected?

Re: How many Marvel type blockbuster universes can exist along each ot

If Paramount is starting to ramp up Transformers, I wouldn't be surprised to see them do the same with Star Trek if the third movie proves a big enough hit.

I wasn't aware the Universal films in the 40s were part of a shared cinematic universe. Well, there was 'Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man'. I had heard that they were planning on bringing back the Universal Monsters. With reboots of The Mummy , Creature from the Black Lagoon, Bride of Frankenstein, etc, on the way. With Dracula Untold being the first of this new universe.

I heard Fox wanted to make an epic Alien/Predator/ Prometheus crossover universe. But I doubt Ridley Scott will cooperate. He won't want to have Predators cameoing in his film.

I am surprised Paramount are not chomping at the bit, and fasttracking Star Trek sequel and spin off movies, in JJ Abrams's universe, but with new characters. A la what Star Wars /Disney is doing

^^^
They did crank out two of them regardless.
I think by that then it's fair to say that FOX has already established that their Aliens/Predator/Prometheus franchise are indeed part of a shared cinematic world by virtue of the two AvP films.

It hits me as a trend that will bring a studio down at one point. All you need is one or two of these films to crash and then a studio is fucked because they have four more in the making.

^ Indeed. The bubble will burst. The Marvel Cinematic Universe cannot go on forever.

It's worse than that. Marvel and DC have their movies planned up to 2025 or something like that. But you're right, one or two failures and everything is up in smoke. And movie audiences are finicky by nature. One thing's for sure, when the MCU does fall, it's going to fall hard. Trek's downfall a decade ago will be nothing by comparison.

Well, they haven't spent serious resources for four. Age of Ultron and Ant-Man are in production, Captain America: Civil War is in pre-production. Before serious money is spent on Cap, AoU will be in theaters. Any announced film where they've done little more than hire a director and lead actor isn't a huge deal.

One tanking probably won't be enough (it had better not be, because I'm not optimistic about Ant-Man's chances!). Let's be pessimistic and assume that both Avengers 2 and Ant-Man tank. They should be in production on both Cap and Doctor Strange at that point, but probably not anything beyond that.

If they stop the universe there, they're about a billion in the hole from the 2015 movies and what they'd spent so far on 2016... which still puts them in the black overall.

Re: How many Marvel type blockbuster universes can exist along each ot

Even if Ant-Man underperforms, that's not going to deter the average moviegoer one bit from seeing Cap 3 feat Iron Man. Marvel Studios' line-up is diverse and established enough that they can survive even a disastrous flop or two, even if it means lowering a budget or two in subsequent films. If the MCU sinks, it'll do so in a slow, orderly manner, with minimal loss of life.

DC, on the other hand... if BvS underperforms, they'll be too deep into production on Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman to back out, so they'd have to pause subsequent films until those two come out, and hope to Zeus they sell like aces. If all three underperform, or even maybe just two of them, the DCCU could well die in the crib, leaving only solo Bat-films for the foreseeable future.

Re: How many Marvel type blockbuster universes can exist along each ot

So, for those of us keeping score, this makes for the following extant and possible sci-fi/fantasy cinematic universes:

1. MCU
2. Star Wars
3. DCCU
4. X-Men
5. Ghostbusters
6. Valiant Comics

7. Universal's "Combined Monster Universe" (2014-????)
