How many Changelings Were There

Yet the link is also literally that, a way of connecting individual minds/souls. The link is an exchange and a blending of individuals. One of the questions I raised in this thread was what happens when an individual Changeling has part of itself separated.
Would this part have a consciousness or the ability to shapeshift on its own. The use of blood tests seems to indicated that Starfleet at least believed that a small portion of a Changeling's greater whole would not be able to maintain its shape.
I think that if Odo were able to split himself in half and have the two parts operate independently, then we would have seen him use this ability. Which doesn't mean that a more experienced Changeling would not be able to do just that (and we just never knew it or saw it)
Again, the Great Link implies a melding of individuals, so the question remains how many discreet Changeling "personalities" existed.

it would appear that a blob of Changeling matter needs to have a certain mass before it is able to operate independantly. Perhaps, if the changeling's brain functions were actually spread throughout the whole body, then it would need that certain mass to have the brainpower to do anything.
As seen in DS9 'Vortex', when Odo (as a glass) was shattered into pieces, the pieces shifted to liquid and drew back together to form Odo. In the Final Chapter, Odo was able to "pour" a bit of himself into a cup, but Bashir used that as a medical sample, not as a new changeling.
As for how many Founders there were, as many as needed would be the answer. Apparantly, enough to cover the surface of a planatoid...
Assumin' that each shapeshifter seen was a different one, at least a dozen. Odo, the Female Founder, the General, Laas, the Romulan, the Chief, the Doctor, the Vase, and the handful seen in 'The Search'...
