How Long Have You Been Following This Whole Bloody Thing?

I couldn't find a thread in which to introduce myself, so this is my first posting in this forum.

I first heard about the new Trek film in 2007. Two things that shocked me about the new film: Firstly, that Rick Berman wasn't going to be involved. Secondly, that JJ Abrams was going to be involved and they were going to give this film the big-budget treatment. My friends are convinced this film will suck. But the trailers have convinced me to have some faith in Abrams and co (I love that 3rd trailer - so very epic).

Trek has been a part of my life since I was 12 years old. Coming from a migrant family, it's philosophy of diversity and peaceful coexistience means a great deal to me personally. So to finally see Star Trek finally treated by TPTB with the respect it so richly deserves is a real personal thrill for me. April 7th...I mean May can't come soon enough.

I've been following it ever since the first rumours of JJ Abrams doing a Trek movie started, April 2006. Three fucking years ago. I remember within a week a posted a thread on this BBS speculating what fan reaction to younger actors playing Kirk and Spock would be like, based solely on how the internet's whipping bitch du jour(sp) Daniel Craig was being treated at the time. Interestingly enough, Pine and Quinto haven't faced that kind of criticism so far.

I shall remember with fond memories the impact I have made to the Trek XI forum. When I suggested Morn should be in the movie, I began the "So I've been wondering..." trend that was popular for four days. Then when I learned the Kelvin registry, I began a crusade against leading zeroes which burns strong even to this day. And my more recent bitching about Dr. M'Benga not being in the movie has inspired the much better thread about the movie not having the rock penis.

It's been a fun time, mofos. Here's to ya, lads.

I suppose since the begining. Almost three years ago now.

I remember reading the news updates in GenTrek. Who was helming, who was writing, who was in the casting spotlights etc etc.

Then when the Trek XI forum was created i didnt go online often due to work etc, so i couldnt really follow it properly, in here anyway.

I followed it at work where i read on entertainemnt sites and on here (where the internet security at work didnt allow me to login ) and ocassionally at home, but by the time i finnished my usual internet routine, i didnt have time to join in all the threads.

Sometimes i regret not being able to join in the Sombreroprise thread, even though i had followed it from the beginning.

The making of Star Trek XI or the goings-ons on the TrekBBS forum?

The making of Star Trek XI since I saw the teaser some time early/mid-2008...
The goings-ons on this forum passively since perhaps November last year - and they never ceased to weird me out since then (the sombrero thing is particularly incomprehensible)...

The movie is fun and brings a fresh energy and spirit to Trek. I have been a fan since watching "The Mantrap" first run, but it's time for a new Trek for new fans and one the new fans can call their own.

Although there are numerous explosions and time is taken to reestablish the premise of Trek, it's an actual movie and not a two hour TV episode like the some of the other films. The plot isn't perfect, but the fun is there and it will revive a moribund franchise.

For some of the fans, it will come down to their acceptance of Pine as Kirk. He fits the bill as do most of the other regulars.

i think i first heard some rumblings about this film back in 2006 so its been three long years for this wait. just five weeks to go now!
