How long before TNG were the Wrath Of Khan uniforms phased out?

I'm sure there's somebody on this board who can enlighten me about this. :)

We see a couple of TNG characters wearing TWOK (or variant) uniforms in the past. Picard, Jack Crusher. We also see the crew of the Enterprise C wearing them in Yesterday's Enterprise, which was, what, only 22 years before the events of TNG's third season? (so only 19 years before Farpoint)

One assumes then that the TNG uniforms are relatively recent when we first see them in the TNG pilot. In Beverly's flashback sequence in Violations we see Picard wearing the season 1 TNG uniform on the day Jean-Luc brings Jack Crusher's body back to her, as do the crew of the Stargazer in The Battle. Admittedly both of these are visions brought on by outside forces, but if we take them at face value we might surmise that the new TNG uniforms were phased in during Picard's tour of duty on the Stargazer, as we do see Jack Crusher wearing the TWOK style (and we know he served on the Stargazer).

Does any source actually pin down the uniform change to a specific time? How long before TNG do we think it changed?

Probably post the events of The Battle of Nerendra III (c. 2344) I would think. just my own guess.

Perhaps there were other concurrent uniforms in use alongside the modified Wrath of Khan ones (no distinctive white collared undershirt or belt)? A little akin to the Generations TNG/DS9 uniform mix, or TMP's mix of styles, or the Kelvin movies' mix of red, black, grey and brown Earthside unis as well as the TOS-style shipboard costumes. Or even Discovery, if we're to believe the recent novel tie-in claiming the Constitution-class has it's own uniform (what we saw in "The Cage") while the rest of Starfleet wearing the blunifom.

FASA came up with some cool pre-TNG uniforms in their infamous TNG Officers' Manual. One modelled by a Tellarite!

Odd that they didn't include rank stripes on the sleeves of the TOS dress unis. That makes zero sense. Might have to chalk that one up to 60's corner cutting rather than intent.

There were variations of gold trim to indicate four different grades that we saw, so I think it must have been intentional. Theiss seems to have been going for something similar with the early NG "bathrobe" dress uniforms, before they were given pips a few seasons in.

What is odd about the rank stripes on TOS dress uniforms was that the women's had them but not the men's.

One thing I wonder about is whether the season 3 TNG uniforms were phased out at all. They're still in use right alongside the First Contact uniforms in late season 6 DS9 (!) and it'd previously been seen on Future Captain Nog in "The Visitor".

Maybe Starfleet doesn't actually phase out old uniforms at all. If uniforms were supposed to be truly uniform, you'd think a sub-space memo and a round of replications/fabrications would be all that's needed for every ship in the fleet to make the switch almost simultaneously.
