How is your colon?

^ Well, okay, the occasional multivitamin couldn't hurt. But remember, I work in a supermarket, and I've seen the kind of useless crap that infests the pharmacy aisles. 99% of that stuff is unnecessary. (As for cosmetics? More like 100%)

I agree that there are a lot of random herbal remedies and crap out there, but I certainly wouldn't consider those to be real supplements. Supplements are meant to provide you with the nutrients you are missing from your normal diet. It can be hard to eat all of the necessary things from whole food alone (whether you can't afford it or you just don't have time to cook/eat that much food during the day). That's what real supplements should be for.

I suggest simply changing your diet to lots of veggies and whole grains. That will probably work better than some overpriced yoghurts and other "miracle" solutions.

I suspect you're right. Also, lots of water and exercise. :)

I've recently become addicted to Mini-Wheats cereal -- in fact, I'm eating some right now. Suffice it to say, I poop just fine.

Well, water and exercise aren't a problem. I workout every single day.

Yeah, my mom does the same. The Frosted Mini Wheats plus her coffee in the morning have made her very regular. :p

I think you gotta try harder. Get your mind in the game and focus on the task at hand. Imagine a well oiled log flume for inspiration if need be.

And if all else fails, just sit on the pot and squeeze.

I don't eat much fibre (just 1 bowl of Weetabix a day at the most, I don't eat many vegetables either), but I drink lots of water (over 2 litres a day). I spend maybe 2 minutes pooping every other day and most of the time 1 sheet of paper is enough to wipe with. Eating lots of fibre is overrated and just makes a mess, just drink more water. Most people don't drink nearly enough water.

Yeah, that's mostly what I'm doing now. Aside from the Benefiber that I bought, I'm just making a bigger effort to eat more natural fiber. I've always been so concerned with proteins and carbs that I overlooked fiber!

It doesn't help that I don't eat salad. I really don't like lettuce, so that's probably a big reason why other people have less of a problem.

As far as I know lettuce is about as nutritious as water soaked tissues.
How about steamed veggies instead of salad? Carrots, brokkoli, peppers, spinach, onions, zucchinis, eggplant, kale, brussels sprouts, beans, tomatoes, peas, pumpkin, savoy - yum!

And if you wanna find out how much time food takes to pass through your body: eat corn! :D

It's not that I don't eat veggies. I eat plenty healthy, but lettuce acts as ruffage that helps push other things through your system. Without ruffage, you tend to get clogged up.

I normally wouldn't share something like this on the BBS, but I think we're already in TMI territory anyway. And the title of the thread is makes it pretty obvious what it's about, so nobody should be surprised.

Sounds like my problem is opposite from what others here are talking about. I've been experiencing gastro-intestinal difficulties since April (this time around).

I've been aware for the past several years that this happens to me when I'm under excessive stress. I've been to a gastroenterologist before, who was unable to find anything physically wrong.

I've put off going back to the doctor because I don't think there's anything he can do. Right now I just take over-the-counter meds every couple of days to help.

I'm very frustrated because this interferes with my daily activities, as you can imagine. Probiotic supplements don't work, and yogurt is not a great idea because I'm lactose intolerant. And I'm thinking that it cannot be good for my body to ingest so much Pepto and Immodium.

Do you think I should go back to the doctor anyway?

I'm lactose intolerant too. Are you getting your calcium? That'll help if you supplement a little extra calcium. I drink lactose-free milk with added calcium/vitamin d. I can also eat cheese...can you? That might help too :techman: There's also Caltrate with extra D.

Me, I love my bran flakes and fibre added granola bars :techman: A woman's goal is 25 grams a day!

I use almond milk when I eat cereal. (Tried soy milk and that caused even worse problems than regular milk!)

I can eat a little cheese. Things like lasagne and cheesecake have too much and usually give me terrible stomachaches.

So you think extra calcium might help? I'm pretty desperate by now, so I'll try just about anything.

BTW, I've been on the NutriSystem diet for a month now. The food they sent is pretty vile, but I supplement with fruits and vegetables like you're supposed to. GA has lost nearly 20 pounds so far. I've lost 4, and that's probably all water weight from the "D" word. Not impressed with the program at all.

I'll never trust Marie Osmond again!!!!!! ;)

Yes! Your body must be deficient...almond milk very rarely is supplemented with calcium and vitamin d (you need both) Caltrate is the best...also there is calcium and vitamin d enhanced orange juice (Minute Maid).

NutriSystem works as long as you eat their food. The moment you go and eat real food (even healthy real food) you'll gain it back.

Good luck!
