How is watching Renee at a gala going to ensure her mental state?

Between this (which is not super bad, just a step down from prior story beats), DSC, and a lot of the Arrowverse shows I'm starting to think that mental health storylines are very, very hard to to accomplish well. They're all either superficial, stereotypical, ham-fisted, have the tone of an after school special, or all of the above. Lots of "writer avatar" stuff I think.

This isn't to say that these stories can't/shouldn't be done. I just seem to notice a huge shift in tone when this stuff comes up.

Maybe there are multiple people at the gala to watch over her because there could potentially be multiple threats to Renee? No one knows how Q will attempt his assassination or even if he has recruited accomplices.

Or maybe everyone has got Q wrong? Maybe he is actually trying to cure Renee’s depression caused by her fear of the space flight (she might be having premonitions)? Perhaps the space flight ended in disaster in the Confederation timeline with the death of Renee and Q is trying to save her from this ultimate doom?
Yeah, not 100% convinced Q has malevolent intentions here.
