The right to remain silent works pretty much the same in US & UK law - in practice, that is. In each case, certain types of inferences can and cannot be legally drawn from the fact of the defendant's silence. Also, certain types of criminal proceedings are outside the scope of the right to silence laws - tax fraud, for example. On paper, it's different, as our law comes directly from our Bill of Rights, and yours is scattered here and there in different statues and bits of common law precedent.

However, when one is discussing pervy fanfic, all the rules go out the window.
