Men do find her attractive just not every man's fantasy. I wouldn't want to be in Jeri's shoes. I'm a Kate Mulgrew in the looks dept. Probably a tad less because she has amazing skin :-)
I'm not on posters on twenty something's wall but I consider myself beautiful. (Took me a long time to admit it to myself because I am no Ms. Ryan.)
As for straight women, I used to think we were all closet lesbians and some are, but usually attraction is also stimulated by a desire to embody certain physical and characteristics of the person you 'desire'.
And then there's an energy theory. That what people are drawn to is the energy sent out-moths to a flame. In that case that person's beauty is relative to how the receiver perceives it through that connection. I imagine there could be other reasons but none come to mind.

Kate Mulgrew has a very devoted fanbase full of all kinds of mostly women. Straight, gay, bi and trans. I don't think we can pin down why she attracts such a following because we'll have different reasons, but she does have a definite charisma that is there from seeing her as a young girl on a soap to her late 50's on a stage at a con.

... there was a youtube vid with Xena as Janeway's role model / heroine. (HEROINE: a woman admired or idealized for her courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities)
It was pretty good but has since been lost to the ages.
If anyone on the boards has delusions of vidding, feel free to bring back that idea as a new video.
hux... why do you consider Janeway a sexless reflection for women. Because many woman are not interested in having sex with her, or because you feel Janeway herself is not a sexual person, or that most women do not see themselves as sexual beings?
