Yet another classic hilarious episode tonight! And I really loved the future scenes with Mother.

I missed the first few seconds of the episode. When Ted and the mother were in the limo, what was the year?

It opens with them popping the bottle and celebrating her book being published. I don't think it listed the year, unless I missed the first few seconds as well.

If this was so, I can imagine Barney saying "Ah! The Teds!" And then the Ted we have known for 8 years says "Are you talking about us, or my wife's boobs?" and then Barney says "Exactly! My favourite pair!"

2022, assuming the limo scene was the same New Year's Eve preceding The Mother's hangover at the end of the episode.

Looks like we got a set-up for the story of Ted and the mother's elopement, the one we caught a glimpse of a few seasons back.

potential for this story to end on a bit of a downer. Couple sad hints about Ted there, she's concerned about him living in his stories. Depression because something sad happened there, or losing his mind a bit? Something felt off there.

And how he almost cried and she changed the subject when she asked what kind of mother would miss her kid's wedding. Does that mean his mother dies in the next year or so, and doesn't make it to his wedding?

Was hoping for the happy/romantic ending here rather than melancholy, which there are a few hints this is heading towards...

^Yeah, I figured something happened to Ted's mother.

^That was my first guess too. The other thought plays into the theory that the mother dies sometime before he tells the kids the story. Perhaps they know and are getting their time away now. I really hope it's not that and they're playing with us.

Or the daughter dies while Ted is telling this story.
