How Has Your Smartphone/iPod Touch (Portable WWW Device) Changed Life?

Re: How Has Your Smartphone/iPod Touch (Portable WWW Device) Changed L

It is worth it if you want a device that let's you check your email, get restaurant recommendations, check GPS navigation, check facebook, pull up random wiki info and tune your guitar.

Things that I've do/have done on my Smartphone:

All my email.
Facebook
Check Movie Times/purchase tickets
Random info that you wonder about all day
Stocks and analysis of them.
Took lots of photos with the camera, since I always have it with me.
Pocket photo album with every photo I've taken in the last 3 years from on phone, or copied from my Canon.
Bought another smartphone (it was a Nokia E71), from my smartphone (An HTC Tilt).
Navigated to a job interview.
Navigated to a new apartment.
Navigated to a bar on half-off imports night.
Listened to hours of music, my own and streamed from Pandora, iHeartRadio, or others.
Read ebooks.
Read the whole Bible.
Bid on eBay.
Do my homework.
Wrote my admissions essay to my college (Pocket Word on my HTC Touch Pro).
Had a b#### fight with some kid from another continent in the game World War.
Browsed this forum.

I did not write this post from my Nexus One, but I could have.

^^ How many phones do you own?

I was curious what the battery life is on these things. Some of the stuff I've read makes it sound like they can't go through a full day without a charge. Is this correct? I've been thinking of buying one but I'm hesitant to buy a phone that might leave me stranded.

Mine easily lasts all day, but I have a custom ROM installed and I have it OC'd to declock when the screen is off to extend the battery. I'm sure if it just say there, my phone would last days. FWIW, my phone was at ~40% when I went to bed last night after normal day's use.

One, the HTC/Google Nexus One. For a while I had two, one was provided by my employer (AT&T) the other was personal. I tended to change them out rather regularly for a while (subsidized toys FTW), but here's the complete list of phones I've used. The smartphone OS is given in italics, if I got OS updates they're given with a slash. FYI this has been since about 2006:

HTC Nexus One (Android 2.1/2.2)
HTC Touch Pro (Windows Mobile 6.1/6.5)
Motorola KRZR K1 (dumbphone, I was feeling retro and bought one for $30 unlocked)
Nokia E71 (Symbian 3rd Ed)
iPhone 3G (iOS 2.x)
Palm Centro (PalmOS Garnet)
HTC Tilt (Windows Mobile 6.0/6.1)
Motorola Q9h (Windows Mobile 6)
Blackberry Pearl 8100 (I HATE Blackberries)
Nokia E62 (Symbian 2nd Ed, what a giant hunk of crap that thing was)
Motorola RAZR V3xx (damn good phone, used it for a year, gave it to my GF, who used it for 6 months, then gave it to her mom who still uses it)
Samsung BlackJack (Windows Mobile 5/6.0)
Motorola KRZR K1m (man that was a sexy phone for the time, decent MP3 player, oddly enough was faster and had better software than the K1 I bought years later)
Motorola RAZR V3c (bought one to shut my GF up)

I'm a fairly heavy user (lots of web browsing), 3 email accounts synced at once, tons of apps, and I get a day out of my Nexus One. It's either about to die when I go to bed, or on a lighter day and when I forget to plug it in, it will be about ready to die in the morning. iPhones are the worst when it comes to battery life, on the other end the Nokia E71 could go 2-3 days without needing a full charge under normal use, and with light use would last a whole week.

Re: How Has Your Smartphone/iPod Touch (Portable WWW Device) Changed L

How did it change my life? Spending inordinate amount of time standing around social situations with everyone around me with their head down as they feed from their wireless tether. It's getting kind of annoying really. Particularly when they hear a semi-interesting part of a conversation and ask you to repeat what you just said because they were too busy reading what some acquaintance had for dinner on their facebook.

On the positive side though, awkward people that don't know what to do when standing alone don't have to smoke to look like they have something to do anymore. Now they can just look down at their phone and recede in to their techno-bubble.

Yes, confirmed. I am one of those guys who finally managed to quit smoking.

Ipod Touch 2G with IOS4 installed

-Multitasking due to the IOS4
-Weather
-Notes
-Browse the internet while in bed before going to sleep. It's really a space saver. That way I don't have to lug a laptop and have my thighs get hot from the laptop.
-Contacts
-Email
-Wall street journal
-Sonic screwdriver app
-Books Abraham Lincoln Vampire hunter, Harry potter
-Comics- Iron Man, Spider-man, green lantern
