"Where No Man Has Gone Before" was an excellent pilot.

I liked "Broken Bow" quite a bit (but wasn't impressed by the next two seasons). Rest didn't impress me.

The DSC opening two are probably the best so far, although they're launching a serialized arc and not a Planet of the Week anthology show.

It's hard for me to rank it simply because it was so different from the other pilots. Vulcan Hello/BATBS is basically a two-parter flashback set before an actual and/or imagined pilot. Hero ship not featured. Hero ship's captain not featured.

It felt awesome to me because I love world building, but, as I've said before, I'm not a viewer they had to "win over" with a pilot.

2nd after Emissary. I don't think TVH/BatBS were much more than above average episodes, but Trek pilots have been so dire up until now, that this one takes second place. Emissary is the only pilot I would choose to rewatch for fun. I suspect that will be true of this one too in the future.

Here's the thing for me. Just counting it as an entertaining TV show, ignoring the Trek aspect, it's probably better than most Trek pilots, even though it's not good. That said, those other bad Trek pilots felt like Star Trek. So they had potential. This can get better but will it fit with everything else? Probably not because there are too many things that are just way off, like the Klingons. So the "but the other pilots were bad too" argument doesn't work for me.

"Where No Man Has Gone Before"
"The Cage"
"Emissary"
"Encounter at Farpoint"
"Broken Bow"
"The Vulcan Hello"
"Caretaker"
"Battle at the Binary Stars"

I gave it 5th (as a combination of both episodes). For me, its behind WNMHGB, "The Cage", "Caretaker", and "Broken Bow". It just edges out "Encounter at Farpoint".

I'm only basing it on the strength of the pilots themselves, not the series they represent. VOY and ENT had some good pilots, just not enough to back it up in the overall series.

I'll let you know once I've seen the actual pilot next week. These two episodes were more like a prelude. Only two of the main characters were introduced and the hero ship wasn't even mentioned.

I still think Enterprise had the best pilot.

1.) Ent
2.) DS9
3.) Where No man has gone before
4.) The Cage

Honestly Discovery wasn't much better than TNG or Voyagers pilots. Have no desire to watch any of them episodes again.

Broken Bow
Emissary
Caretaker
The Cage
Where No Man Has Gone Before
Vulcan Hello
Encounter at Farpoint

Broken Bow is still the best. I felt in the 'Vulcan Hello' the cast was still very fresh.

Discovery was a big let down because in first show no U.S.S. Discovery was there and the second show was Internet showing that you had to pay for and all future show as well. The Klingons look like reptiles to me. So to me it fits the Kelvin timeline style. Phase Cannons and not Phasers the show is set in the earth year 2256. It an odd show to me

And it's things like this that are a turn off to me. They're doing all these cute little parsing out of things, like Kurtzman saying that the first episodes were more prologues and the third episode in the order will pretty much be a second pilot.

Just make a good series with a solid story and good characters. All of this overwrought background and production cuteness is annoying.

1. Emmisary
2. Caretaker
3. Broken Bow
4. The Vulcan Hello/Battle At The Binary Star
5. Encounter at Farpoint
6. The Cage
7. Where No Man Has Gone Before

I think..... Depending on my mood, I might switch TNG and TOS around.

My complete list (Including "The Cage" in the mix):
1) TOS - "Where No Man Has Gone Before" (Yep, still my favorite Pilot)

2) ST: D - "The Vulcan Hello"+ "Battle At The Binary Star"

3) "The Cage" (Unsold first TOS Pilot)

4) TAS - "Beyond The Farthest Star"

5) ENT - "Broken Bow"

6) DS9 - "The Emissary"

7) VOY - "Caretaker" (and yeah, I still haven't seen all of that series - quit at VOY - "The 37's"; but I still thought it had potential in the Pilot.)

8) TNG - "Encounter At Farpoint" <--- Yeah, overall I do like TNG better than VOY - but TNG's pilot (and most of it's first season) was crap if I'm being honest. In fact a number of the same people I watch the TNG pilot in 1987 were with me tonite watching ST: D; and we all enjoyed the ST: D pilot and are getting together again next week to continue watching. The reaction to TNG in 1987 was: And I recall it because we were all of the same opinion -"They had years to develop this, and this pilot was the best they could do?"

01 Emissary
02 Broken Bow
03 Caretaker
04 The Vulcan Hello/Battle at the Binary Stars
05 The Cage/Where No Man Has Gone Before
06 Encounter At Farpoint

1. Emissary. For me, this was the best pilot of them all. Drama, pathos, origin, uncertainty, hope, and plenty of paths to take from there.
2. Caretaker. It really was a great pilot and set things on good footing.
3. Where No Man Has Gone Before. I remember being a kid and seeing this for the first time, and thinking how awesome it was.
4. Encounter At Farpoint. Definitely beset with issues and stilted acting, I still remember being enthralled with this at the tender age of 7.
5. The Vulcan Hello/Battle At The Binary Stars. A mishmashed convoluting start to what I was hoping would be a fantastic series. I'm still hoping.
6. Beyond the Farthest Star. Wasn't much for TAS, but this was a decent pilot. Didn't like the animation style, though, never have.
7. Broken Bow. Probably my least favorite pilot. It just never really grabbed my attention, and I stopped watching ENT soon after.

1: The Vulcan Hello/Battle at the Binary Star
2: Emissary
3: Caretaker
4: Broken Bow
5: Encounter at farpoint
6: Where no man had gone before
7: The Cage

Although Farpoint and WNMHGB switch out at times

1. Emissary
2. Broken Bow
3. Vulcan Hello/Binary Star
4. The Cage
5. Caretaker
6. Where No Man Has Gone Before
7. Encounter at Farpoint
