How do you view walt disney company now?

Mainstream, main-project Walt Disney Pictures is as good as ever.

TV/Direct-to-Video Disney is rarely for anyone over 13.

It has, and always shall be a business. All the kid schlock pays for the better stuff. And that's the only stuff I watch, so I'm fine with it.

I still find the magic in the amusement parks to be there. An excellent refuge from the real world, and a fond escape into the past.

Overall, like them a lot. I love the parks. Miley/Hannah and Jonas Bros don't bother me at all. My daughter enjoys them and it is fine entertainment for a certain age. It's not for me, but I have no problem with it at all.

I must admit, I've never cared much for Disney. Every time someone of my age starts talking nostalgiac about The Little Mermaid or Aladdin or The Lion King, I have nothing to contribute, as I've never even watched those films. I'm not saying they're bad, far from it, they're just really not my thing - even when I was seven.

Disney gets a lot of flak for its output this decade, but I enjoyed some of their cartoons. Kim Possible was very funny and clever in its parodies of secret agent and action/adventure genres. Fillmore was bizarre, a 70s cop show transplanted into a middle-school environment - a really unique cartoon.

Don't like the company. The movies are just filled with loads of racist stereotypes, although they have toned it down in the last decade I would say. In addition, they aren't even that original. WDC is also just another mega conglomerate that really could care less about their workers (starting salary here in Orlando at Disney is about $6/hr or less, which is far below minimum wage. The parks are obscenely overpriced (this has never really changed).

A friend of mine told me that WDC is evil. I got the feeling that when the days coming, WDC will be punishing BIG time. As of my understanding, they were so easily to getting away with it. Oh, well...
Evil????

Punished by who?

Getting away with what?

Given that they did jack to try and keep Pushing Daisies around, my view of their television division is not really printable....

Depends on what part of the company you are talking about. Disney Channel is absolute crap, but their parks are and always have been amazing and magical to me. I love the older animated movies and the Pixar films and some of their recent live action stuff. Their most recent animated stuff I did not enjoy, but I look forward to more animation in the future.

They are full of missed opportunities.

The whole idea of the "vault" was to create excitement for when things would come back out again. It was done at a time before home video, when their classic films could be seen in theaters again. I still remember being able to go in the early 80s and see Cinderella and Snow White in theaters.

Before the internet and large e-tailers, the idea of the "vault" changed for home video. Prices on videotapes would skyrocket after the tapes were no longer readily available, and people would pay astronomical amounts for their cartoons.

At the time, it seemed like a smart move to them. Unfortunately, they've fallen behind. Way behind.

These days, when something is released, it's on dvd. And even when they send it back to the "vault" it is readily available via ebay, half.com, Amazon, and literally hundreds of other places on the net. Retailers know about the Disney game and stock up ahead of time. The "vault" no longer means anything.

They could be making so much more money by simply having everything remain available.

They are also missing the boat in a big way with their television shows. Instead of releasing shows to dvd in season sets, they have a handful of shows they release and then it's themed episodes. You can't go into the store and buy Lilo and Stitch: season one, or Phil of the Future season two. But you can get a "best of" Phil, or a "crossover" dvd with That's So Raven and Suite Life.

This is the same company that puts out Lost and Desperate Housewives. They know how to make money (and anyone who has ever visited a Disney Store can tell you this), but their dvds ... just don't make sense.

Another thing they do that really annoys me is putting the word Disney into the stuff they release. "Disney dvd" "Disney blu ray" "Disney file" etc. No, it's dvd, blue ray, and movie download.

I also - and I could be alone in this, I dunno - think the people who work for Disney now do not understand what made Disney films work in the past. Instead of creating original masterpieces, they create soulless sequels for their direct-to-dvd assembly line. Did the world need two sequels to Little Mermaid, or three sequels to Cinderella? The answer is No!

Never, was a real fan of Disney at all, even when I was a kid. Off the top of my head I can only list a few things I did enjoy from them like Aladdin, The Lion King, and the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. It's mostly because they're stuff is all watered down repeating the same themes and concepts. You've seen one, you've pretty much seen them all. They're also way to PC for my tastes, making mostly only family friendly movies and children s animation and I usually don't go for that type because I can watch them and accurately predict exactly what's going to happen and there's no fun in that. I prefer my animation and films to be more serious, less humorous and with a flare for sophistication or maybe some good old fashioned bloody violence and sexuality.

Now, if Disney started producing animated shows similar to Black Lagoon, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Haibane Renmei, or Rumbling Hearts then maybe I'd be a larger fan of theirs.
