How do you people eat seafood?

Knife and fork; sometimes chopsticks.

Fish and marine invertebrates are the only forms of animal life I will eat, so I'm pretty much the anti-you.

I will say in respect to lobsters that contrary to perception they aren't "squealing" -- that sound is the steam escaping from their shells and they die pretty quickly. If you're concerned about that then the best course is to put them in the pot before turning it on; they'll gradually cook then without "suffering" as much (without a full understanding of the nervous system of the lobster that's difficult to determine; until scientific studies a year ago it wasn't certain that fish experienced pain) -- same is true of humans if you wanted to kill yourself in a hot tub -- at least that's the reasoning behind it.

If you really want to eat seafood I'm sure a therapist can help. I worked with someone who became nauseous at the smell of fish and I was an avid consumer of smoked mackerel and tuna -- he had to leave the room/table if I started my lunch. It was sort of annoying at first, but I became quite sympathetic and would warn him.

As far as whole fish goes the cheek flesh is some of the tastiest; some people also relish the eyes, though I cannot say I would go there...

heres a thought you jump into a vat of boiling chip oil and see if you scream , bet you do!m of course they feel pain they move they have nervous systems etc so yes i bet they do scream! :S

^ Eh. They die almost instantly, probably no more painful than the electric chair. Also: they are essentially giant bugs, so who cares?

There was a comedian the other day on the radio doing a bit about this stuff. To paraphrase, he said he was glad his food came already murdered, because he could never look a cow in the eyes and shoot it. But, he said people don't feel that way about fish because they have no eyebrows. He said he could probably kill anything if it was going to have that same fish expression. It was funny. Guess you had to be there.

;) I can also consume clam chowder in frightening quantities, provided it's none of that ketchup-y New-York-Style stuff.

Sounds like you're not making it right, mate. I like both Manhattan and New England clam chowders. I like tomato soup, so that with clams in it is just fine.

Sounds like my philosophy. I won't eat anything I wouldn't be willing to kill myself, so that limits me to invertebrates and fish, which isn't that limiting at all...

I grew up with a family full of commercial fisherman so I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't eat seafood. Probably go crazy.

I'm not even sure I could name a favorite. I'm not a big fan of lobster though. My dad loved it and my husband likes it a lot. For some reason I just don't like it. I'm also not a big fan of clams. Although I could probably eat just about any seafood if it was the only choice I had. I love fried stuff but I actually really enjoy raw oysters too. :bolian:

Normally I use a fork or a spoon unless it's finger-food. *shrug* I grew up by the ocean so seafood is perfectly normal to me.

I'm not a big seafood fan, but I love a good salmon sandwich, crab meat and lobster meat--both pre-picked out of the shell ;)

I am from Maryland, so I was raised on blue crabs. I am not really a fish person. I will never eat any meat that was kosher slaughtered. If you want to see why, watch this.

Funny what bothers me more is the factory-like nature of how they are handled.

It's terrible to see animals go through that. I do have farmers in my family. I'm afraid the method is not much different, just on a smaller scale. Every Easter, my father tells the story of the first time he went to slaughter the baby lamb. Did it wrong and took too long to die. Gets ya right here.

I should possibly have titled the thread 'How can you people eat seafood?' The things we think of after we hit the post button.

I 'spose then the joke would have been "any way I like!"

Gosh.
