How do you like your tea?

At work I get through copious amounts of Cranberry\Rasberry\Elderflower stuff. Sometimes green tea of some sort too.

Regular tea just tastes like ditchwater to me, and Coffee I think I only ever pretend to like for the sake of drinking rocket fuel.

Tea, Earl Grey, hot, as well as tea, Earl Grey, iced.

I also like English or Irish Breakfast, hot. Every now and then I like oolong, though usually I mix it with a black tea.

Whether hot or iced, I make it in a pot - loose tea and boiling water, just like in the old country, even though my "old country" is actually California. Now that I've discovered real tea, I hope I never have to go back to the cheap stuff in a teabag ever again.

Whether hot or iced, Earl Grey or not, I like it plain - no sugar, no milk, usually no honey unless the tea is a bit bitter. Sometimes a little fresh mint is nice, but that's it. Nuthin' else.

Every now and then, I've been known to drink chamomile. But I simply loathe fruity teas, so all you restaurants out there who keep offering me raspberry tea or peach tea or mango tea...please, please, please cut it out! Well, I take that back: You don't have to cut it out, but please don't replace real tea with that raspberry/peach/mango stuff.

Lunch on a summers day, the three musketeers together again... :D

Hopefully there are still some good days left in this summer to be enjoyed...

I keep thinking we're spamming, then I remember I'm the OP... surely that oughta' have it's little compensations... :p

...As to teas, I am in search of the holy grail - a good vanilla flavoured tea, which I had in another country a long time ago, and really enjoyed. I have since tried to recreate it myself with vanilla pods, and pre-flavoured ones from all sorts of tea shops, but none of them quite has the same wonderful fresh flavour I experienced that first time... Anyone got any ideas for good brands when it comes to vanilla, or how to flavour it more adequately myself?

Sounds glorious! Except the Thai in the park festival has been and gone it seems... Tea in the park might still be doable. Or have I got that wrong?

I have it on good authority that sometime towards the end of August will be glorious.

I don't believe I've ever tried vanilla tea.

Bung a blob of icecream in instead of milk ;) That might actually give a pleasant vanilla flavour if you let the icecream defrost first.

There is such a thing as vanilla sugar - I wonder if that would give you the taste you're looking for? I've never made it, but supposedly it's as easy as: 1. Take some sugar. 2. Put it in a vessel that can be sealed airtight - such as a canister or a canning jar. 3. Take a vanilla bean. 4. Bury the vanilla bean in the sugar. 5. Let the vanilla bean stay in the sugar for a couple of weeks. 6. Remove vanilla bean.

Darjeeling! Milk and sugar!

Iced tea: sweetened...with no fucking lemon!

eta: pardon my language...after 12 years in Ontario the fact that restaurants only serve Nestea and Brisk has finally made me batty. Want decent iced tea up here you gotta brew it yourself. And I do.

I like my tea strong. Kenyan or Assam, that kind of tea.

I use 2 teabags in the cup, with 3 sugars and plenty of milk.

Darjeeling but in the Russian style ..sugar only

Don't do any of the fruity teas..

Fruity tea is the worst.

Scottish blend or Typhoo teabag,Strong, big mug(must have either chocolate confectionery name on it or a pic from a comedy program), milk, no sugar.

^ Won't that give it a milky/creamy taste? The tea I'm after has no milk at all, just a little added sugar. Might be fun to try it anyway! Thanks for the suggestion. :)

okay, what about those little bottles of vanilla extract or vanilla essence, that you find in the home baking sections of the supermarket? That should work. You would only need 3 or 4 drips to flavour a cup full. I'd recommend trying it with something like Darjeeling or Ceylon tea. But allow it to cool for a couple of minutes first before adding the flavouring, else the vanilla will have evaporated before you start to drink it :)

Also I have noticed that the more expensive vanilla extract, while authentic is less flavoursome than the cheaper artificial vanilla essence.

Fantastic ideas, girls! Definitely trying those out. Thank you so much! :D

Bought vanilla essence today and paired it with black tea, with a couple of lumps of brown sugar. Delicious. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for the suggestion Jadzia. :D

I've had this cup for 15 years.
It was a gift from my parents for completing the 8th grade. :D
