How do you get up in the morning?

it could perhaps be a question of serotonine levels. Have you tried different lighting? I use bulbs that have a frequency spectrum which corresponds to that of natural light and made very good experiences with these.
I've also tried LEDs but they are way too far in the blue frequencies and can damage the retina.

Also, one of these alarm clocks that gradually get brighter, simulating a sunrise, might help you.

As for the cornflakes problem, you're not alone there: last Friday during lunchbreak a colleague put a spoonfull of mustard into his coffee and sugared his Wieners :D

I am someone who often stays up late as well. Like right now as I post this. I think it's because my body never fully adjusted from my 13 years working at night as a Bulk Carrier for the local newspaper.

My daughter woke up at 2.30 and she decided that she didn't wan't to sleep anymore, and she screamed till 4 am an woke up her baby brother.
So we lay her matras on our room and we slept till 7.30.

So we had a great night, anyone interested in a 3 year old girl?
You may give her back when she is 4

Don’t people usually sleep more when they’re sick? I got my usual 4-5 hours. I was hoping having a cold would be a way to sneak in a few extra hours. :wah:

I fell back asleep for a few hours luckily. Had some SUPER weird dreams but I guess that just happens when you’re sick.

My sinuses feel like someone impacted them with cotton balls.

Reluctantly,

And how come, on a school day, the kids won’t get up, but at the weekend, they won’t let us sleep.

I don't know about that, I usually sleep much worse when I'm sick. It's difficult to sleep well when you can't breathe. :(

Unless I take the right cold medication. Then it's like, hopefully the world won't end in the next eight hours, because I'm not waking up for it... :shifty:

And how come, on a school day, the kids won’t get up, but at the weekend, they won’t let us sleep.

The same reason I seem to have more trouble getting out of bed on the days when I know work is out there waiting for me?

And for that it should be proud. DST is an abomination.
And senseless at this point. I swear the only reason it's still done is "We've always done it". It's made no sense in nearly a century, since people needed an extra hour of working daylight on the farms. For the rest of us, it just throws off everybody's internal clocks, so we can spend, at best, 2 weeks going back to waking up with the sunrise.

You watch, by Thanksgiving, it'll be like nothing happened. We'll all be back to waking up in the dark, but now we'll also be forfeiting an hour of afternoon daylight, which means the day shift working world actually DOESN'T have any palpable daylight savings. Quite the opposite. I'll be coming home from work in the dark too

Daylight Savings is basically the vinyl record scratch of life, that jumps a beat twice a year, & should be fixed.
Don’t people usually sleep more when they’re sick?
Not really. They're usually told to TRY to sleep more when they're sick. It's just encouragement, like "try to eat something", or "try to get more fluids in you", etc... Doing those things will aid in recovery, so that's why you're told to try to do them, the word "Try" hinting at the reality that it'll be a struggle to do so

That said, I don't usually have much issue with sleep. I don't do it luxuriantly... 6 hours a night. Sack out just before midnight, & roll out just after 6, except on Saturday, when I move things up an hour to get the jump on the grocery stores. If I'm wiped out, it's usually lights out moments after hitting the pillow. If not, I usually do a little meditative type thing, where I clear my mind & deep breathe, & then it only takes me 10-15 minutes. I use to have much more issue getting up in the AM, but a lot of that was weight related, & losing pounds helped a LOT

I also made a huge improvement ditching my bed. Now I got a mattress on the floor, & while it looks shoddy as hell, it's the best sleep I've had in YEARS, so it's staying. However, having to get up off the floor in the AM is rather an unusual way to wake up. So I may invest in some kind of raised platform bed, that is as solid as sleeping on the hard flat floor... just so I don't look like a train car hobo in my own bedroom, & can slide out of bed the normal way lol.

Although, a lot of things I've read say that a little bit of exertion in the waking up process, can actually energize you better, & maybe it's true. I zip right into action now. Don't even do caffeine... Whatever I do, I'm never going back to a box spring... or being overweight lol

I wake up about an hour before I set my alarm for, take an HRV reading, then lie there until five minutes before my alarm was set for and turn off the alarm. Also I hear the sounds being made by my fridge and heating system and try to quiet the paranoia that the mouse I haven't seen evidence of for months is back.

You know I have never asked this before but has anyone ever tried to count sheep, to go to sleep? I think that is from a nursery rhyme or something but has anyone ever done it? I think I have a vague impression of maybe doing or it might just be me thinking about doing it from the past. Like I said it's very vague.

I'm country bred and therefore have always been aware that a mentally normal sheep doesn't jump fences. So the idea of counting sheep jumping a fence has never occurred to me.
On the contrary, I find that thinking in gerneral and concentrating on something in particular keep me from falling asleep. However, bedtime stories have always worked for me. I use a usb-stick-sized mp3 player loaded with audiobooks to fall asleep. A constant gentle murmur is perfect for inducing sleep, as any pupil will readily confirm :D

I take a shower before going to bed to Save time in the morning. I wake up 35 minutes before I need to leave the house. I eat yoghurt with cerial and dress and brush my teeth. I’m too tired in the morning to do much else.
