How do you define MATURITY?

Inspired by the latest tattoo thread, where I was told that I am not a mature person, I am trying to figure out exactly what makes someone "mature." I actually consider myself to be very mature. Yes, I occasionally talk about childish things and start threads about poop, but I don't think that in any way makes me immature.

So what makes a person mature?

When they're boring, have no soul and feel they have the right to tell others that they should also join them goobble gabble

When they can create a thread title without CAPS.

Okay, I'm totally kidding. Partially kidding. Maturity isn't defined by any one aspect of one's personality or life. I consider myself to be very mature in some regards and ridiculously immature in other areas.

It can mean a lot of things, both negative and positive. For example, being mature can be associated with wisdom and experience and acting or speaking with dignity and respect. On the other hand, being too mature can mean having a stuffy personality. So you'll just have to strike a balance between the two.

I don't really know how I define it. I suppose if the person doesn't run around, Mess about and generally piss you off, They class as mature in my books.

This is a much tougher question than I thought it would be. I suppose I define maturity as being able to handle the responsibilities and consequences of being an adult.

Wow, when I started a thread like this the mods closed it down... I love double standards... :techman:

Yes, I totally forgot one very important aspect of maturity, which is responsibility.

I would say it's when you can understand and also apply said understanding of irony.

Knowledge, common sense, good attitude, and how to use all those things wisely. I don't care if someone has toys still, makes corny jokes, or watching cartoons -- as long as they don't act like children in the mental sense, they are mature. Certain adults would be boring as shit if they took everything seriously and never smiled.

When you know better enough to do what is right as opposed to what feels right.

Of course, by that definition, all the politicians in my area area immature idiots. :)

It's when you stop caring about whether other people think you're mature or not. This isn't a snotty answer, I mean this seriously. When you're confidant enough in yourself that you go forward without worrying if some person you hardly know thinks you're mature then you're mature.

Not that it really matters, though.
