I was quite pleased with the movie. Edgar Wright brings out the best in Pegg & Frost as a writer/director/creative collaborator, so I figured Paul would be lacking that certain something that Wright brought to Shaun & Fuzz. So, no worries.
yeah, same here. Nothing special but good. I'll probably get the blu-ray when it's cheap.

I liked it. It wasn't a brilliant movie, but it kept me entertained.

This. It had a couple of good laughs. I liked all the shots it took at organized religion, and I liked all the genre references. No, it wasn't nearly as clever as Shaun or Hot Fuzz but it was fairly entertaining.

I thought it was one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. I thought Weaver stole the show.

Seth MacFarlane's Roger is funnier than Paul. Roger's Paul Lynde sounding voice adds a lot to the humor.
Somewhere in here is a film about a liberated empress and her delinquent entourage.

Paul isn't a Blood and Ice Cream movie -- no Edgar Wright. It wasn't supposed to be the same style as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz.

Anyway, I really enjoyed it. My ranking:
Fuzz > Paul > Shaun.

Disappointing, but still better than most comedies - I don't fault the Pegg/Frost team for not hitting the Shaun/Hot Fuzz high notes every time (esp. without Wright, as many here have said).

My sentiments exactly. I think another "problem" with the film was that as you said, it wasn't Wright/Pegg writing it, it was written by Frost along with Pegg just because Frost left out (I think I read that in SFX or Sci Fi Now or did he mention it on their Top Gear appearance?) and wanted to be part of that creative process.

On the whole, I did like it, not as much as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz or Spaced, I did like some of the jokes and was the only person (in a packed cinema) to laugh at the Cantina music from ANH when it came up.

This, exactly. Also, has there been any news of "The End of the World" yet?

Unlike Shaun or Fuzz, I will not be coming back to watch Paul again anytime soon. It wasn't so much bad as just routine, as if Hollywood crushed the ingenuity out of Peg et al.
Which may be what happened - after all, that CGI must have been expensive - which means a big studio - which means more interference, etc etc. Before you know it, you've got a bog standard formulaic scifi comedy. UGH.

I think you're right there

Paul was very disappointing, but your poll is weird. I saw TPM at age 10, so I wasn't disappointed at all. :p

I was just trying to do something a bit different with the usual rating poll. I was so disapointed I had to make a dig at it rather than make a fair poll.

It's interesting that you bring up spaced because thats what I felt the film most lacked those unique quick changing funny cuts. The subtle moments and non cliche character reactions.

I liked it, but I also didn't have so high expectations. Not really a fan of their other films. I've always preferred american comedies and sitcoms over british, and I think Paul was a little more broad and appealing to the public than the duo's other films.

Is it just me or is Paul a rip off of Jay and Silent Bob Strike back, except with an alien instead of a monkey?

I'm a fan of their other films, but I honestly wasn't disappointed in Paul simply because it didn't look that great in the trailers.

The ending reveal of the CIA/FBI boss has to be one of the biggest disappointments and wtf moments in recent cinematic history.

It makes me laugh how making a film about two guys meeting a talking alien that's acclimated to Earth and it's culture, is suddenly ripping off Seth McFarlane. As if McFarlane was the first one to come up with an idea like that.

Are all the other aliens, like Roger, snarky substance abusers on the run from the CIA?
My generation called him ALF.
My parents generation called it My Favorite Martian.
