How different do you think "Discovery" will be after episode 5?

That's when the influence of the fired showrunners will be gone and I was wondering if you think we will see a drastic change in tone to a point where you can clearly tell new people are running the show or do you think the show will stay somewhat consistent with both the 1st and even first 5 episodes of season 2. What are you expectations?

Me I think we might see even more humor come into the show. Maybe even more action. The show might truly become more like the Kelvin Universe. Whether that ends up being a good or bad thing if it is unknown. I like the Kelvin Universe so I wouldn't mind it but I am kind of fine with what we have seen so far this season as well.

My concern isn't so much tonal as it is character/theme/plot related – do the new showrunners have a clear idea where the story was supposed to go, or at least a good idea where they'd like to take it, or are they running in blind like seems to have happened in season 1? I don't want any stupid MU Lorca shit this season.

We really don't know where the story is going . However remember the season was already plotted and scripts were likely decided minus more detailing. A lot of planning took place before filming even started. They weren't making things up as they want each week. They weren't even doing that during season 1 either. For whatever issues took place during season 1 the story was plotted out and planned even if changes did get made here and there. Nothing was being made up on the fly once filming started.

So I don't think we're going to get tonal whiplash. If there is a change the show will be building toward just as how the ending of season 1 was building toward the changes that took place this season.

I imagine the early episodes were restructured some to fit with any rethinking that Kurtzman might have done when he took over. For example, the amount of Spock foreshadowing in the early episodes may or may not have changed- so much of that is voice-over and isolated sequences.

The showrunners left but the writers underneath them are still the same. There won't be any difference.

If nothing else, we know a 14th episode was added late in production, suggesting Kurtzman thought the season needed some more time to wrap up the arc.

I don't expect any noticeable changes, other than the list of exec producers in the opening credits (Harberts and Berg replaced by Duff).

In my opinion, there was a big shift - very tight script, believable dialogue, razor sharp direction.... not a waisted beat ... wow
Well yeah, Klingon episode’s have always had a different tone in the franchise

This episode was filmed before the change in leadership anyways.

Lorca being from the MU was planned all along. Jason Isaacs was told about it before he accepted the role, and played it accordingly. There were a number of clues sprinkled in from the beginning, even if it only became obvious where they were pointing in retrospect, after the reveal.

I don't think they'll stray too far off the path they started with. Whatever happened that got Berg and Harberts fired, they seemed to have had a framework for how things were to go.
