Working my way towards one! You should have made an option for those who are self-employed maybe.

Well I don't have my career quite yet, but I don't think I fit into any of your categories. I got a college degree, skulked around for a dozen years, then went back to school to get a trade so I can actually have a regular paying career while I re-discover my dreams.

I don't quite have the career I want just yet, since I'm still in law school. However, I do have a pretty good job (in HR), and I got that by working my way up the ladder. I started out as a receptionist, I impressed all the right people, and I kept getting promoted.

I got a degree, applied for a job, worked a few years, than decidet, even I like the career, its not just EXACTLY what I want to do, so I decidet to try a different career, studying for that right now....

I guess this suites me best: "Applied for a job in my desired field (without any post-secondary degree))"

I have a degree in a vaguely semi-related field (left over from what I used to think I wanted my career to be) and a certificate in my field.

My current job is actually my hobby from when I was getting my degree. Funny how things work out sometimes.

I voted

"Applied for a job in my desired field after graduating with a degree in the same field" because I think it was the nearest I could get to my situation.

However I was actually getting jobs in the library industry before I graduated (with a diploma) I only had a couple of temp jobs after getting my diploma before I went on to a disability pension due to ill health. If would like to work for a couple of days a week if I could find a part time job with hours flexible enough to fit in with my health problems.

I don't have a career. I got the job I have because I wanted to work where I am now, and I picked the easiest way to get here. Fortunately, it turned out be a pretty awesome job on top of it all.

I am one of life failures with no career I work in a factory that makes medical supply's.
Would be happy to stay there but I know one day it will go to Poland or if people are will to take the risk with medical supply's china.:(

Picked a career with high pay and good prospects (Electrical/Computer Engineering), went to a college with good reputation in that field, got degree. recruiters came to job fair on campus during my Senior year, invited me down for an interview. Did well, got job offer, and had signed and accepted job offer by Xmas of Senior year, contingent on graduating that spring, of course.

Graduated, started work, still working...

I was going to college and interned at a local software company. The university got to be too expensive after a few years and so I wasn't able to continue. My student loans were capped because I was still at the age where the feds take your parents' income into account, and they made way too much for me to get grants--not that they were helping me in the first place.

So, I interned at the software company a while longer and they picked me up even without a degree. Worked there for 7 years, got laid off in late 2008, put myself out there on every job site I could, networked with people, and landed a job in New Jersey in the same field. That's about it.

I graduated with a rather useless degree first time 'round, and am now studying towards a degree in my chosen field and will also soon begin to study towards an NVQ3 (diploma level) in the same field through my work. With the new UK government jobs in my field may disappear, however, so I may have to change career routes again a few years from now.

@macloudt
Or instead of changing your career again you change the country. English native speakers in your field are wanted here. :D

 Thanks for the offer, but I'm all done with international moves. Hopefully I won't have to make any big career changes, because I enjoy what I do.
