Spoilers How did you feel when you first watched the end of Star Trek II?

I am curious to know how you all felt when you first watched the end of The Wrath Of Khan when Spock died? I felt it was extremely sad after watching all the series.

When I first saw it in 1982, I was, of course, pretty sad for Spock but was interested in the new characters they had brought in. In those days, we thought there was plenty more TOS to come so I was actually excited to see what came next.
Thought it was a cop out when Spock came back in THE VERY NEXT FILM.

I was 15 in 1982 and my friends and I were really moping around after seeing the end of TWOK. We thought Spock was gone forever. We would meet up and flash each other the Vulcan salute and say "Spock Lives!" But we didn't hold out much hope to see him again.

So what happens two years later? They bring Spock back but kill off David and destroy the Enterprise.

I wasn't surprised, but there was a reason. Firstly, my parents had bought me the Star Trek Read-Along books (Star Trek II, and Star Trek III), so I read and saw what happened in the books before I saw the film.

That said, seeing it actually happen was so sad.

It was sad, and maybe because sequels weren’t as common back then, people didn’t recognize the hint at the very end when they film in on his sarcophagus on the planet. I already knew of course that this wasn’t the last time we would see him, but that’s because I watched it for the very first time today, and not 30 years ago. I liked it.

As a fan active in the local fandom (Sacramento) I had heard the rumors, I saw the film opening night with my girlfriend
(who was also a Trek fan) and when Spock sacrificed himself, we both were hugging on to each other with tears stuck in our eyes...Then the very end scene, to me it lessened the impact..I put 2 and 2 together and was happy 'cause "He'll be back!"
(if one had ever seen the series, you knew he'd be back!)

I saw it after V and IV so it didn't really impact me. I knew Spock had come back from the dead before I learned how he died.

It was a moving set of sequences and I felt sad Kirk could not save his friend. Spock left some big shoes to fill, but the possibilities to moving on were optimistic. All went into a screeching halt when TSFS came around.

It was no surprise that Spock would die, as it was pretty well publicized beforehand. I didn't go into mourning, but I took it seriously. I would always get somber when that time came, as well as his funeral.

I can't remember..it was 1990 or 1991 and I knew Spock would come back in the subsequent movies. It was a well done death scene as any.

I was 16, saw it on opening day, and remember that night remarkably well. Still have the movie promo booklet I bought that night. I wasn't too upset; I knew even at that age that all the talk at the time about "taking Star Trek in a new direction" on the part of Harve Bennett, etc. was all BS and that Spock would be back in the next movie.

I recall being much more bummed out when the Enterprise was destroyed in Star Trek III.
