How could they have made DISC fit in more with THE CAGE?

So they (Terran Empire Starfleet) built a ship in 2245 (roughly) to spec with a ship they had captured a century prior?

Reverse engineering can be a pain, and I bet the ship wasn't taken a part. Known the empire they had it on the front lines.

I don't care what the party line is, but Discovery is not the Prime Universe, and aside from recycling names, no real attempt is being made by the show to be part of the Prime Universe.

There really isn't anything about Sarek and Harry Mudd that is unique to them. They could have used any other Vulcan or any other sleazebag in their place and nothing would be different. They're just name recognition for the fans.

So Michael telling Tilly about serving on a "Constitution class starship like the Enterprise" is 100% proof positive this is the Prime Universe? Because, we've kind of been following the adventures of another Constitution class Enterprise for the past nine years which is confirmed to be in a different timeline.

The proof is CBS and the people working on the show saying it is. The tie in media, approved by CBS also saying it is.

I want to know where the Mirror universe bare female midriffs are at?!? Enterprise had them, TOS had them... but Discovery doesn't!!! :scream:

They can also say that Klingons are pink unicorns and start making productions with that decision and claiming it is "Prime". Doesn't mean I'm going to buy it.

You must have missed all the bitching and moaning about the Abrams films being in a different timeline? No way CBS was going to say anything else after that fiasco.

Well that is why we have a thing called head canon. You can believe what ever you want even if it isn't true.

I consider a lot of the novels in my personal timeline of of trek, unless they're contradicted by official canon material.

No matter how good the ship. It is going to get caught in a bad situation at some point and go down. There is no way they weren't working on reverse engineering its tech from day one, having eggheads crawling all over it.

At least not the Prime universe I grew up with. It doesn't make the show good or bad, it just is what it is.
I have to admit, I honestly don't get the impression everyone seems to be giving off that it would be a bad thing if the show weren't Prime Universe. I mean really does it matter that much? I know if the writers did suddenly say Discovery was a different timeline, my opinion of the show wouldn't change because of it. But listening to everyone else, the fact that it supposedly is the Prime Universe means the world to them.

Their words mean nothing to me.

That actually can be explained. Either Hoshi or Georgiou eliminated the bare midriffs when they took the throne, and Lorca reinstated them when he took over.

Yes. No. Maybe? I can't see characters like Captain Killy taking kindly to having to dress that way. It also just circles around to TOS and how it handled women, which was mostly poor.

Yeah, I know. I was just being sarcastic. Although it is noteworthy that Discovery is the first time the Mirror Universe has not sexualized the female cast. TOS and Enterprise certainly did, and having Kira walk around in that leather BDSM outfit was pretty much the only purpose to DS9's MU episodes.

I guess it is easy for me to see Discovery as an alternate timeline because I love alternate timelines/alternate history. I just love to see stories about roads not taken at pivotal points. I loved Khan being woken up under completely different circumstances in Into Darkness than what he woke to in "Space Seed". I'd love for Discovery to wake up Khan and watch him match wits with Lorca.

Well that, and all the pretty obvious changes due to the distance in time between it and "The Cage"/TOS.
