How come we never discuss Naruto Shippuuden?

Wait, is Naruto Shippuuden a person? A type of anime?

I figured it was its own show. I have no idea what's going on. Is this like the Carl Saban (is that his name? The Power Rangers guy?) of anime?

I'm surprised that we never discussed for each episodes of Naruto Shippuuden! We should be able to discussing whatever we likes to, but perhaps you're not big fan of Naruto Shippuuden, let alone bleach anime series that is too popular to talking about it, to me, I don't see how we could have that same discussion about Naruto Shippuuden.

Because Naruto Shippuuden is bad. Naruto post time-skip went down the drain fast; and Shipuuden spends it's time drawing things out worse than Dragon Ball did; for something that's already bad, it's a death knell.

Well, I'm game if you want to discuss it. Only problem is there's two ways to follow the series, fansubs and legal streaming, and they don't really jive too well. I follow it via the free legal stream from Crunchyroll.com so I'm always a perpetual week behind so if people here are following it by fansubs they need to be careful about spoilers for those of us in the other camp. We can discuss it but there has to be rules:

1. USE SPOILER TAGS
2. Put the episode number outside of the spoiler.

That way you all can stay alive and I won't have to kill anyone. :klingon::p

We didn't have to do that for the Bleach thread since everyone was on the same page but here it would be nice.

It's the second series in the Naruto franchise. Naruto is a person and in the offen blissfully uncreative world of anime title composition the main character's name is in the title a lot. Naruto Shippuden translates to something like "Naruto: Hurricane Chronicle".

It's not exactly my forte being shounen which I usually avoid aside from Bleach, Inuyasha: The Final Act, Naruto Shipuden and an amusing shonen satire called Needless but it's a good time killer on Thursday nights. I'm much more into other shows airing at the moment such as Bakemonogatari, Darker Than Black 2: Gemini of the Meteor, Natsu no Arashi, Umeneko no Naku Koroni, and White Album.

Ha, the Bleach Discussion thread arose out of my posting about the return to "no filler" and has been alive and active ever since... Funny enough, we're back to "Filler" episodes, but at least this anime arc has been somewhat interesting.

As far as Anime goes... (and just so we're all on the same page) It's a medium, not a genre. It comes in all different types and forms.

I'm not very well versed in anime due to the language gap, but as long as I can get behind the characters, get halfway interested in the story, and find a sub, I'm usually game for anything.

Half the shows Zakkrusz mentioned above are ones I've never even heard of, but based on our discussions, I'd be willing to give them all a shot. (if I can locate them)

I have and currently enjoy both Naruto Shippudden and Bleach as extensive character based series. There are undercurrents to both series that some people who only give it a cursory viewing or aren't looking for specifically tend to miss yet I take enjoyment from, and a lot of that tends to be character moments.

Their are many shows out there, but most of them are limited or standalone series of 13-26 episodes. Bleach and Naruto, tend to be some of the longer running ones.

The Irresponsible Captain Tylor for example is a personal favorite short series.

Something that I've noticed is a lot of places tend to lump any sort of exotic-looking animation into the anime sections. I keep seeing Aeon Flux put in anime (when correctly it's more of a Euro style). I've even seen Fantastic Planet - which was made in Czechoslovakia or some such place - put into anime. It's sort of like how SF and fantasy are seen as interchangeable by a lot of "laypeople" for lack of a better word.

As for me, I'm of mixed impression when it comes to anime and manga. There's simply so much of it out there, and a lot of it really isn't that good, frankly. I have seen some excellent animes and manga (Appleseed for the former, Battle Royale for the latter), but not enough for me to forsake all others (as some have done).

Yeah anime certainly follows the "90 percent of it is crap" rule. That being said though, just about everything follows that rule

Bakemonogatari- Koyomi Araragi was once a vampire but is now more or less human thanks to a strange homeless man he met who is an expert in so called supernatural "oddities." Koyomi now finds himself seemingly a magnet for other supernatural events and he meets girls with various supernatural issues and tries to help them.

Darker Than Black- Season 2 is airing now in Japan, I'd start with the 1st season though which is available streaming legally from the the licensor, Funimation, on their website. It's a science fiction series where two meteors have crashed into the Earth and somehow accelerated the evolution of humanity. The show follows BK201 also known as The Reaper, an agent of the Chinese mafia and his team who wage a deadly war between psychically powered humans called Contractors behind the scenes.

Natsu no Arashi- A pretty amusing random comedy. Hajime meets Arashi the ghost of a girl who died in World War II who has the abillity to travel through time. Streaming legally at crunchyroll.com.

Needless- A rather amusing over-the-top satire of a shounen fighting series with a healthy dose of fanservice.

Umeneko no Naku Koroni- The Ushinomiya family all comes togather for a meeting on a remote island to discuss how the family wealth will be divided upon learning that their father Kinzo has a terminal illness. Once there though they are stranded due to a typhoon and people begin being murdered in gruesome and seemingly impossible ways. The family attempts to find out if the culprit is one of them or if the island's legend of the Golden Witch, Beatrice, is true.

White Album- Flashing back to Japan of the 1980s, college student Toya Fuji is dating Yuki Morikawa a rising pop idol singer. However, their relationship is seriously put to the test, as their lives take them further apart and work, family issues, and other women get in the way. Available streaming legally at Crunchyroll.com.
