How can you praise this movie and bash VOY, ENT and Nemesis?

I'm a fan of the first six TOS films, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, Nemesis....but not Trek XI. I do find it quite amusing that so many people displayed intense dislike of Enterprise, only to embrace a new timeline where the only show left intact is...Enterprise.

No --
All the shows are left intact. The original timeline was left intact. Everything happened. TOS, TNG, all of it. Nothing was wiped out. Right now, in the original timeline, Picard is probably coping with the loss of Ambassador Spock, and the Federation is dealing with the aftermath of the destruction of Romulus. It's going on.

In that original timeline, Kirk died in GEN. No one in the new timeline is getting a second chance. They are not living different lives other than to say they are living lives in another time. They're time. Kirk may live to be a dirty old man in this timeline, but that does not change the fact that he died at 62 in the other.

It's amazing how many folks don't get that. Amazing. It's not hard.

I KNOW the orginial timeline is intact. I was talking about the NEW TIMELINE. In this timeline, which is the one the movie is set in, the only show left intact is Ent. I would have thought that obvious from my original post, in which I spoke of "embracing a new timeline".

My aplologies to all for, er, losing my temper a bit in the last post. :( There, now I've edited out my snarkiness in the post above.

Any real mourning or remorse at the destruction of Vulcan did seem to get ignored for the happy ceremony scene at the end. There is a precedent for this, though - Princess Leia's five whole seconds of mourning over Organia asplodin'.

Err, Alderaan. Sorry, watched Errand of Mercy last night! The Organians would've wiped the floor with the Death Star :)

Leia's last name was Organa, which is responsible for my cranial short-circuit...

No big deal. It's not a personal argument. I kinda see what you mean, but the word "intact" may not be appropriate.
Because the others are intact, too. They all just happened once. The new timeline required ENT, but it required TOS, TNG, and the others, too. So what if they don't happen a second time? They all happened once. I guess that's my point.
I mean, in a way, without ENT, nothing would've existed, that stands to reason. But I fail to see why that should bemuse me in this case. It's a part of both timelines, so what?

Shinzon already had his revenge on Romulus: he killed the entire Senate. He then decided to destroy the UFP because that was a goal the pompous Romulan Senate had never been able to achieve.

Also, he wanted a symbolic revenge against the planet whose genetic side had caused him so much harm, pain, and misery in his life-remember the coda about 'The Echo Over The Voice'? Destroying Earth was a part of it. Shinzon was somewhat similar to Heath Ledger's Joker-he just wanted to see things burn.

Voyager was bashed for the crew and the mood being too happy for a ship alone in the other side of the galaxy.

What in the hell? What in the hell is this crap?

Voyager would've been better if the food replicators didn't work and they had to result to cannibalism...starting with a Tuvix buffet.

Wait, I don't get this. Can someone please explain it to me before my head explodes?

There are people who...like...Nemesis?

Oh yes, there are::vulcan:
Despite the fact that Star Trek, as an institution, has lost much of its momentum, especially after 1998’s muddled Insurrection, the Trek still holds a special place in the hearts of geeks. And Star Trek Nemesis is, surprisingly, probably the second-best Next Generation film, after the Borg-heavy First Contact. After the initial “flogging a dead Targ” feel of seeing the old, and I do mean old, gang reunited (the wedding of Deanna and Riker, the futuristic dune buggy away mission with Picard, Data and Worf), Nemesis quickly and efficiently introduces its antagonist (Shinzon, a young clone of Picard who now rules the Romulan and Reman empire) and starts exploring its themes of duality. Of course, there’s a lot of action as well. Nemesis is closest in its feel to the Star Trek oeuvre’s best offering, The Wrath of Khan, especially with its climactic battle between Shinzon’s flagship and the Enterprise, the “selfless” sacrifice towards the end and the evolving animosity between Picard and Shinzon, although the film stops itself from having Picard scream, “Shinzoooooooon!!!
Star Trek Nemesis Review By Chris Gramlich

I liked the new movie. Is it the best Trek ever in my book? No.

People like or hate a given show for a multitude of reasons and just because they do not like one incarnation does not mean they are barred from liking the next.

I watched Voyager up unitl year....5? Then I could not take it any more.

Great premise with horrible execution. I kept waiting for it to engage me, but it fell flat. I cared for Tom and B'lanna (sp?), but they were the only two I could muster a real attachment to.

It aggravated me to death that they stopped at every space rock on the way.

As a female, I was excited to hear Janeway was coming. Meh was the response. She was bland at best, and I kept wanting to scream; "Get a move on woman!"

Then came E: I hated it. I tried to watch, and after season one gave up. It seemed bland. The characters fell flat. The storylines did not engage me.

I loved:
TOS + Movies
TNG + Most Movies (Hated Generations and Insurretion) - I liked Nemesis. :guffaw:
DS9 - My personal favorite!!!!:bolian:

That is all folks.

Well, not everyone is sane. And no one knows what drugs he was on when he saw it.

Uh, he was quite sane, and is a pretty tough reviewer-check out the rest of his reviews. Your point proves nothing, besides being insulting to somebody just because he gave a review to something you hated. Wonder what you'll do when and if he gives a bad review to Star Trek XII? How will you feel then?

Nemesis started out flaky, but what ruined it totally was the horribly depressing ending with Data's death. Even the B4 "will eventually be Data" moment didn't save it from crashing and burning.

I find that people who hate/don't care about Data as a character are usually more likely to have enjoyed Nemesis more.

Because they enjoyed it and were entertained.

In case nobody told you, entertainment value is what drives all praise and complaints. This isn't principle-based.

Threads like these are just fucking stupid, and it's rare that I say something like that about an open thread.

Two movies (or books, shows, etc) can have the exact same plot, with the same main characters, with the same actors, wearing the same uniforms, and its perfectly acceptable to love one and despise the other. It's all execution based.

I may have on occasion spoken harshly about Voy, Ent, and Nemesis I don't feel I bashed them...like I would the Boston Red socks whenever the opportunity presents itself.

This movie was just riveting and had a good flow to it. Also with that ensemble cast like feel to it I'm way less likely to get bored with dialog hounds like Pickard and Data.

Sure there were a few things like the Red matter and the Mario Brothers like engineering room but this is an alternate reality or whatever the collective here agrees to call this time line so I'm more willing to accept concepts I'm unfamiliar with.

What can I say except I really liked this movie and hope there's another one in the pike or a TV special follow-up. The Franchise must strike while the iron hot.

My sentiments exactly.

Because Nemesis is horrible. This is the best review ever:
