How bad will the show be hurt if Lorca leaves the show after season 1?

I wonder if anyone is still mad at the actor who plays Lorca about those comments about not having to pay attention to Trek fans or something like that? It just goes to show you that little things like that disapear once a show gets started and if the character the actor is playing turns out to be great.

People are still mad about Shatner's "Get A Life" sketch on SNL in 1985.

So...yeah....

I think that the show has been set up that Lorca doesn't make it past the first season. Remember Fuller originally conceived of the show as an anthology so I'm thinking a number of the characters from season one won't make it to season 2.

Almost as badly as Game of Thrones was hurt when Sean Bean left that show after season 1.

I dsagree. I don't think Sean Bean's character was all that interesting. I don't that show relied on his character as much as "Discovery" does with Lorca.

By best you mean worst right?

Because Sonnequa is utterly wooden in her portrayal of Burnham.

Hahaha. Yeah. I'll take Stamets,Lorca, Tilly, and Saru over Burnham thus far.

Though, to the show's credit, they are starting to right their rudders with Burnham. This last episode gave her some good stuff with Tilly/Stamets and Saru.

They need to start pushing Lorca and Burnham against each other.

Is there some talk that Isaaks is leaving the show? If not, I don't get the point of the thread.

It's just a belief because the actor is a movie actor and will have lots of demand for his services. PLus I think their are certain shows or networks were you can expect actors of his talent to stay long-term and CBS and Trek usually don't fit that bill. Now if this show was on HBO that would be different or if was created by a big name show creator like Ryan Murphy that also would be different as well.

I think if Fuller was still around he might be that big name that would want him to stay but not sure if the current show runners would, at least until they also become a big brand names in the future. If the show is popular though it should be able to attract even more and more talented people on a regular basis, even if means they are only involved for a short time.

To be fair The Shat did have a point
I was watching that skit live when it first aired with friends (and we'd all been to Sci-Fi and a couple full Trek conventions over the years prior, and our reaction was:

The fans as portrayed AREN'T being portrayed as a parody - we've SEEN fans like these - and Shatner's comment in the skit was spot on.

Meh, It's not like this is Isaacs' first go at TV, it's just that none of his shows have lasted beyond 13 episodes, so I think the "movie actor" point isn't really fair.

To answer the question, I don't think it would be *massively* impacted depending on who replaced him. If it were to be Burnham or Saru, the show will suffer.

I really hope the series will lighten up in the next season. With Lorca as captain though I don't see how that would be possible. So I am for killing him off or just turn him into an official villain.

He needs to stay. He's the most interesting character on the show. Burnham cannot carry this show alone, we need a triangle of characters like previous show. Burnham, Lorca and Saru.

The grammatical error or the actual idea they were trying to present? ;)
They'll slot a replacement in and CBS All Access's three or four million households will go along.
You're such a cynic. Absolutely right, but still...

It's a Jayson thread. You'll catch on to what that means before long. (:P at @Jayson1 )

I'd welcome a complete reset of characters for season two.

With Fuller out of the picture (and with him, any chance of an anthology right now), all bets are off. I doubt the showrunners are sticking to his vision. That's not a criticism, though. If I were running the show, I'd do what I thought was best instead of following someone else's vision.

I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the season, a few people are gone and Burnham has found redemption. It's entirely possible that she'd be cleared of all charges and, as someone said above, becomes Discovery's captain. I like Lorca and, considering the way most admirals have been portrayed throughout all Star Trek, could EASILY see him being promoted to admiral once Burnham becomes captain. :-)

I would have loved to see an anthology version of Star Trek. I guess if you redress the sets every year to represent a different ship, it would lower costs enough to do, but if you're going to do a true anthology, it shouldn't be limited to only Starfleet ships.

I think the show needs to find it's legs first. Lorca could stay or go, it won't matter. The writers on this show are good writers, there are great ideas here and great creativity, and though I enjoyed the last two episodes I think they really need to start hitting the story they were trying to tell.

They need some more character development for me to even care as much about them coming or going. I like the characters but they don't seem well enough tied together for me personally yet. Within just a couple episodes of Daredevil or Jessica Jones or DS9 I found I had a good idea of the characters and what they were about, as well as an attachment not to them personally, but to who they were in the world they were in.

I don't quite have that with STD yet, perhaps I'm just too picky, but right now I can't say I'd care if Lorca stayed or went.

Stametsm Saru and Tilly are the only characters I have a real interest in. Michael, there is a great character there but I feel it being a bit squandered.

If Lorca were to leave the show, it'd be hella funny if Saru accompanied Lorca onto a Klingon ship against Saru's better judgment, and Lorca was killed by a Klingon despite Saru's best efforts.
