Of course, that's also what Shatner was back in the day...

Fact is, Shatner was a very "pretty" guy... and definitely a bit on the vain side for that period (people have gotten MUCH more vain these days... sorta sickening, actually, but that's another topic entirely!).

He was a "leading man"... a combination of ridiculously good looks and "manly" characteristics (forceful personality, a bit of a swagger, etc).

I've seen several clips with this Vogel guy and honestly, he DOES have some of that. He certainly can handle the "Shatner Smarm" well enough, I've seen that already.

My main beef with him is that he comes across as being half-stoned most of the time, which Kirk should NOT do. If that's just the roles he's been playing, and if he can pull off the intensity that Shatner could do, I'd be perfectly happy with the guy. If he can't... NEXT!
