The guy's 28 years old and is in Abrams' upcoming "Cloverfield" monster movie.

Can't vouch for the site in question - someone at IGN the other day referred to it as "unwilling to run with any rumor, unless someone's told it to them."

I've seen the new Texas Chainsaw film, but I don't remember this guy, which is hardly a good sign. That said, the movie was abysmal and I've forgotten most of it. On the plus side, he's working with Abrams now and he'd hardly be in contention if he wasn't at least a decent actor.

Quick!! Let's get one of our Cracker Jack Photoshop specialists in here to do some surgery on a publicity photo!!

Looks good. Needs to drop the teen haircut, but that's not a problem.

Though it does raise the question: Is Shatners rug canon?

I mentioned this guy's name about a month ago...I thought he was (ar will be) "buzzworthy" because he's starring in 'Cloverfield/1-18-08', and Abrams seems to be going after the "buzzworthy" names (Yelchin from 'Charie Bartlett', Saldana from 'Avatar', and Quinto form 'Heroes'

Here's my earlier post:

Of course, to be honest, I also mentioned about 5 other possible candidates for the role over the past several months.

He's pretty. ;) The only thing I've seen him in is Poseidon, but I don't remember him...I thought I did, but that was Josh Lucas, who made much more of an impression.

..sfunny, it would mean both Kirk and Spock are from the Keystone State. :D

Still think Eion Bailey should get the role. Looks perfect for the part, and can definitely act. But maybe this guy will work too.

^
^^He was also in 'Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants'...My daughter read the book, so we rented the DVD. He was pretty good in that.

Not bad. I watch clip from Rumor has it and he is both good looking and has charisma both essential for the actor playing Kirk got to have. He is 1,78 meters or 5,8 feet and best part is his birthday is same as mine 17 July, so fellow cancerican(best starsign to play good guy type)

Dont know what his actingis like, but physically he's not a bad choice. could do worse.

I reckon Kirk is going to be the hardest role to recast. Spock is relatively easy by comparison. Shatner's mannerisms, delivery and slightly quirky persona (for an apparently conventionally handsome leading man) make for a hard job to follow.
