House 5x9 "Last Resort" - Discussion and Spoilers

Was that the point where House handed the gun back? Because anyone who didn't see that coming doesn't understand House. He made a deal with the patient -- hand over the gun, and he would do the X-Ray. House handing back the gun was, in my opinion, a matter of honor and the honorable thing to do.

I'm not sure that it was a point of honor. House is more the type who'd hand back the gun so that the threat persisted, thereby keeping the SWAT team out as long as possible. That way House would have more time to solve the mystery. If House kept the gun, the SWAT can come right in because there are no longer hostages they have to be careful for.

Now she's lookig rather pale and drawn. Maybe they added the makeup earlier in the ep, to create a more stark contrast with later when she's under the effects of the drug.

Gotta say I like the whole sweater, jeans, boots ensemble on her though. :D

This episode isn't grabbing me the way past ones have. For some reason I don't feel the tension I was expecting.

I was drooling over Thirteen tonight. Especailly when she showed a little hip-action. WOW.

I'm guessing your make-up theory is correct. A way to make her look more pale as the drugs took hold of her.

Really good episode, I expected House to turn the gun back over. So I guess that's now it (for now) for House/Cuddy? :(

Don't you remember? Next week Cuddy's moving in with him. Granted it's into his office, but why quibble over details?

So many things to comment on...
1. The "makeup" on 13 in the office was the defused lighting through dark wooden blinds. Then in the lab, "good hospital" lighting...plus she ws getting sick.
2. Giving the guy Chase's info, incase he had an exit plan.
3.Cop calling House Cuddy's boyfriend.
4. The nurse in pink having the guts to stall for time.
5. Liked the kid hanging around a bit longer.

Next week looks fun..."these walls aren't soundproof."

It looked like she had a darker/different tone to her skin when we first saw her in the clinic.

I think Neroon was right. They put heavier make-up on her for the first scenes to make her going pale/sickly that much more dramatic.

Olivie Wilde? One hot woman.

I mean. DAMN.

Of course House would give the gun back, but the hostage didn't run away was lame. Even the gun back was lame. This whole episode was a mess besides for a few "jokes".

I missed a big chunk of the episode early on, so I'll have to watch it again before giving my opinion. What I saw was pretty good, though, and very in character for House. Loved the Florida/Supreme Court line!

What, no poll?

A good episode all around, though it could have been a little bit better. A little deeper exploration of the psychology would have been nice, but it was certainly tense enough and with some good dialogue. I liked it when House got the guy to take a deep breath while they were arresting him, giving him comfort in the knowledge that he has the right answer... and he's cured.

I fully expect House (or someone) in the next episode to comment on the fact that Cuddy's office isn't that bad, especially compared to Radiology; she calls it "destroyed" in the preview. She's clearly using it as a pretext. :)

Hostage episodes are tough--when it's one guy with a gun, you gotta kind of wonder why one of the hostages doesn't try to take him down. There seemed to be at least a few opportunities to get the jump on the guy.

I see why House gave the guy the gun back; at the same time, it was such a colossally stupid move, especially with other people still in the room. I might have bought it more if it had just been House and him, or even House, Thirteen and him. The kid being in there made the move less believable, even if he did initially (stupidly) choose to stay.

As for Thirteen...yeah, I see why she was the one in there; at the same time, given all the development she's gotten, I think it would have been more interesting to see one of the guys in the situation. I like Thirteen, but I would have rather seen her realize she wanted to live in some way that didn't turn her into a victim.

Something I've noticed with House this season that's really frustrated me is that the dramatics often overshadow the cases and their resolutions...I barely notice what the people are actually suffering from amid all the interpersonal drama. Don't even get me started on House/Cuddy...they're both adults, and it would be so nice to see them act like it.

It was ok, but not great as I've come to expect. I actually lost interest when House returned the gun, but I understood why the character of House did it. He had his puzzle and he couldn't give up on it until he had his answer. Part of me thought though during the one scene where Cuddy was handing off the medicine to House in the Radiology lab that she was going to run in there.

Nice too to see Thirteen starting to fight to live.

I agree.
I love House but this episode flat out sucked.
There were several times anyone in the room could have just bum rushed the guy.
Hell he couldn't breath for crying out load, how much of a fight could he have put up?

the episode could have ending right at the beginning when House injected the fat guy.
He had his back to the gunman he didn't have to inject the guy or inject the whole amount into the guy.

I really want to see what some people who are never around guns, are not trained police/army or anything do when there's someone has a gun pointed at them. I really have no idea what it'll be like, or have any idea if I would be able to do anything. Yes rushing the guy is going to work in this case, but I have a hard time believing that I would be able to do it.
