Hot Tub Time Machine-The Movie That MIGHT Save MGM

It looks amusing, at best, I mean, I want to see it, but I can't see it "saving" MGM, because despite the humor it looks to have, I can't see it making lots of money (as the OP calls it), it''ll be remarkable just to see it break even, if it at least does that it'd be a success.

Because it takes a while to make movies like the Stargate ones and the James Bond ones. Also, the cast of the Stargate SG-1 ones aren't really doing them anymore, either, and the focus is on Stargate:SGU. Movies like Hot Tub Time Machine cost less to make and are easy to get into theaters.

No, because Stargate is a franchise, there would have to be a ton of preperation just to write the story, let alone the script, get the actors, sets, special effects, etc... So likely, Stargate and James Bond would cost more to simply prepare to produce, then Hot Tub Time Machine did, and even further with actual cost of production.

Both of the proposed movies, Stargate: Revolution and Stargate (Atlantis): Extinction have been already scripted, and many of the sets are currently standing.
Personally, I didn't care for either SG-1 movie. The franchise has become stale, and I have great doubts that either of the proposed movies will change that. But they also proved the franchises profitability. Which goes back to my original statement, which remains, why is MGM hedging their bets on an unproven, mid-budget comedy?

Notice I emphasized the word, 'might'. I did not say that it 'would' save MGM.
Fair enough. I still question MGM's whole strategy lately.
I was going to say the only movie called Hot Tub Time Machine I'd want to see is on Cinemax at midnight, but that actually looks pretty funny as far as goofball comedies go.
I am a little bummed though that they are starting to make "go way back in time" films that are set in an era when I was a teenager.

If this doesn't work, MGM might have to get government money, or have it's catalog of films and TV shows be administered by the Smithsonian just like Folkways Records is. Or they might have to merge with Warner Bros.
