Betamax was a high-end device in it's day. Most likely it has a signal amplifier in to reduce the signal loss from hooking multiple devices to one line. The fact it doesn't have a digital tuner means exactly nothing. A modulated signal is a modulated signal (regardless if it is analog or digital) until it is decoded. That's why your antenna, signal amps, and wiring still work with digital broadcasts.
