Webers later verboseness started to make the later books a bit of a chore to slog through.
Yeah, the last couple of books would've benefitted from a bit more editorial oversight, I think.

Too bad his editor died, ain't it?![]()
Agree with the Mary Sue comment. What's her full title now, or does the posting field word limit not allow it to be spelled out?![]()

Plus the only human able to communicate with treecats, the only person of her time to master hip-shooting a Colt 1911, the first "alien" Steadholder on Grayson... on and on and on...
Well, true on both counts, but the first book in a long series (I assume) like this one, may not be the "best" place to start the series. Maybe the first few books of a series aren't that good and can be skipped. Who knows? But it does sounds like the concensus here is that I should start from the first book.I've never understood the desire to start anywhere other than the beginning.
If you like the series, wouldn't having a large number of books to look forward to be a good thing? And if you don't, who cares which one you read?

Queen Elizabeth shrugged. "With all that, deciding what to give you is getting a bit complicated. So I decided to give you back your white beret."
