Homicide:Life on the street

I just switched from cable to DISH network and now have the sleuth channel. I've gotten hooked on watching Homicide again. I used to watch it from time to time during it's original run (kind of like i do with L&O). I guess I forgot how awesome this show was!!! They just finished the Luther Mahoney story line and I think started with the next season.

Any one else remember this show? And were you a big fan?

With not much on the tube to keep my interest I'm glad to have re-discovered this gem.

I blind-purchased the series set last year. I'm currently in the sixth season. Up until the point where the detectives were rotated out of Homicide, I was absolutely loving the show. Once that next season started, though, things just didn't feel the same. Still, I'm quite glad I purchased the set and would consider it to now be one of my favorite series of all time, even without having yet finished the show.

Homicide is one of my favorite shows. I wish that it had lasted longer even though it wasn't quite as good after Andre Braugher left.

I absolutely love Homicide. Though it kind of ruined other cops shows for me. Nothing else comes close. So many of the new shows that have come after have ripped of Homicide's editing style.

No kiddin'.

Love that he came back for the post-finale movie, though.

I've been watchin' random reruns of Homicide on Sleuth & WGN for about a year now. I really should try to find the season / series DVDs.

I LOVE it! It's easily one of the most innovative and most important TV series of all time. The scripts, the cinematography, the music – everything set new standards which are still apparent in today's television series. (Yeah, I'd argue shows like BSG or Six Feet Under couldn't exist without Homicide.) And don't forget the BRILLIANT ensemble cast!

Did I mention that I love the show? :p

I always enjoyed the cross overs with Law and Order, so I bought the first season DVD. I still haven't had a chance to watch them, but I'm looking forward to it.

Never seen it. But I heard David Simon was an EP for the show. I am kind of curious and I love the Wire.

IMO, this is the best cop show ever made. At the time it was made, it was years ahead of it's time...and the show is well written, well acted, and innovatively (for the time) filmed.

I own the entire series on DVD and have watched it often. I consider it to be one of my most important non-scifi (or classic film) DVD acquisitions.

^ Hill Street was another cop show that pushed the envelope of it's time and raised the bar for the genre.

I'll give it that.

Homicide and The Wire are both based (to varying extents) on Simon's book Homicide: A Year of Killing on the Streets. He was a writer and producer on Homicide, but only came on full time during the fourth season.

I am a massive fan of The Wire, I couldn't believe the hype was true, saw a few episodes - turns out, it was, its the the best tv drama - period. As such I've been thinking more and more about checking out Homicide but I'm worried that I'll keep comparing it to its younger brother and won't enjoy it. What do people who are fans of both say to compare them?

I have the first three seasons of The Wire but haven't yet had an opportunity to start watching season three. From what I have seen, though, I wouldn't compare the two shows. Look at them as two different perspectives, perhaps, of the same larger picture: Homicide focuses on, naturally, Baltimore homicide detectives, whereas The Wire gets to branch out into other criminal issues. At the end of the day, though, they're both simply great shows and you should definitely give Homicide a watch.

I missed most of Homicide The Movie when it aired on NBC. I know they put it out on DVD but I missed that when it first came out. I looked on Amazon the other day but they want at least $75.00 for it.
I even joined Blockbuster online because they said they had it. I had it on my queue for a long time and then the dvd just disappeared.

I sure wish that I could get Sleuth. I noticed that they are playing another movie I've been dying to get my hands on: Wiseguy The Movie.

Homicide was one show I never missed once I got into it. The seventh season sucked for the most part, though. I hated Michael Michelle. She ruined the show...especially when they partnered her with Bayliss.

My sister gets Sleuth. Whenever I'm house sitting for her, I make sure to watch Homicide! And I check out the DVDs from the library when I can get them (there is always a huge waiting list...only 24 is more popular there, it seems!).

Hill Street?

I have not seen much of it but what I did was great. I should get the DVDs.

Speaking of DVDs I want to buy the complete series set of Homicide. But A&E home Video disconnected that set!

Deep Discount has all of the season sets. http://search.deepdiscount.com/search?w=homicide&af=cat1_dvds :bolian:
