I never had a pencil box like that, but I once had a pencil sharpener with a similar kind of sliding door over its shavings reservoir. I liked to pretend it was a spaceship with a big rolltop cargo hold. The pencil hole was its docking port, naturally.

Heck, you can even make art with a phaser on the right setting, unless that feature was removed after the dustbuster was retired.
Be really funny if an Andorian ambassador spoke, and from the UT came the (Robert Ludlum voice-over) "And it worrrrrrks!" catch-phrase from the old Ty-D-Bowl commercials.
The catch phase here, for Harpic Flushmatic, was "It's blue!"
