Holy crap. I am losing my mind!

Just a little while ago went downstairs to the basement to put up a load of wash only to discover a load i did last week STILL in the washer. WET. And now it STINKS to high hell! It has been sitting in the washer, wet, for at least 4 days.

I redid the load (IT STILL SMELLS) and now i have it going through the dryer. I put about 6 dryer sheets in there with the load.

It's times like these that i really wonder if i am totally losing my mind!

I hope i get the smell out of that load of clothes AND i hope the washer doesn't continue to stink as well!

Please make me feel better. Tell me some of the dumb things you've done lately that makes you worry if you're losing YOUR mind as well!

I couldn't find the remote the other day and looked everywhere. Turns out it was in the fridge. Sadly, that's not the first time that's happened.

Also yeah, the clothes are going to stink. You just have to rewash them until you can get the smell out. And hope there isn't mold ...

^^ Dryer sheets are bad enough. Your clothes had a mild bit of mildew on them that could have been cured with some baking soda added when you rewashed them.

You may want to note that for future reference.

Oh, and when you rewash, be sure you pull all the clothes out and redistribute them in the washing machine before turning it on again. If you don't, all that mildew and yucky stuff can sort of linger in the creases and folds.

You might even want to split it up into two medium loads instead of one large load or whatever.

I agree with John/Ebeneezer that baking soda helps, too, as does vinegar. You'll still be able to smell the vinegar as you pull it out of the washer, but it'll disburse in the dryer.

Why, yes, I have done this exact same thing before. How could you tell? ;)

Good point about removing said stinky articles, Kate, as well as the vinegar. I'd forgotten about that one.

And people think most men are helpless

I once left my glasses in the fridge and backtracked for miles trying to find them elsewhere.

I once tried to carry a petite young woman and we both wound up up falling to the ground. She wasn't too happy about that

Thanks for the tips guys. I've done this before, but NEVER have i forgotten a wet load for more than 2 days MAX. This is really bad! I wish i came here before rewashing the load. I never thought about baking soda or vinegar.

I WAS going to pull the clothes out but i swear, the stench was so bad that i didn't even want to touch the stuff! I don't think there was anything in that load that we couldn't live without....so if i can't get rid of the smell I'll just chuck it all!

Kestmas Tree and FSM: your stories about leaving your glasses and remote in the fridge make me feel better! LOL!

I once thought I'd lost my cell-phone while I was working in London, I almost had a panic attack and I was hunting around, checking the washrooms and asking everyone in the office if they'd seen it.

Then I found it, I'd just put it in a different pocket of my coat from normal... :o

Vinegar and baking soda in the same washer?

I see a movie coming....VOLCANO 2: SPIN CYCLE.

Once I thought I had left my cell phone in a Cessna. I eventually found the phone, only to realize I'd actually left my *glasses* in the plane....

Yep. Got everything gathered one morning, started the truck, and began to organize it all and couldn't find my phone. I returned to the house and looked all over the kitchen and bedroom, only to realize/remember that it was still in my pocket.

A couple of weeks ago, I went batshit crazy trying to find my glasses. I had forgotten that I'd removed them while working in the garage and set them on the bench before going inside to clean up for dinner.

That probably won't work.

Mildew odour can be removed by putting the clothes through a quick wash cycle, but using a cap full of concentrated disinfectant instead of washing detergent.

I'm going to have to start making notes- it's only a matter of time before I need this information!

I shall add it to my ever-increasing list of "What vinegar and baking soda can do around the home!"

^ I've never used them both at once. I'd try one and if that didn't work, I'd run the load again and try the other. Besides, I use vinegar in the rinse cycle only for some reason or other. I'm not sure if I have a good reason for that or not.

I was doing the dishes and washed an egg.

Also, while writing christmas cards, I wrote one to my late grandfather. :(

The first is hilarious. The second is sad, but totally understandable.

I've introduced myself to the same person SIX times, each time saying, "I have a bad memory. Please don't be offended if I don't remember and re-introduce myself in the future."

Response: "I believe you. That's the fifth time you've said that to me."

I got her name right after that. Hell, you know how many young blond girls there are at my law school? They all look remarkable similar: young, blond, thin, and pretty. Btw, I'm a 46yo married woman, so I'm not paying as much attention to them as, say, Hubby would.
