Not addiction to the holodeck like Barclay had. I'm thinking, if a person took an addictive drug that was generated on the Holodeck, would the addiction or the effects still be there when they left the holodeck? Or would they become addicted at all?
Oh I don't know about that. I've met a number of people in my life who are not only addicted, they absolutely love being that way, always trying to talk their friend in to, not just taking whatever, but "totally getting hooked in," there's a whole social thing to it.No one WANTS to be hooked on drugs.

Yes, wouldn’t taking a mind-altering drug while you’re on the holodeck be overkill?

That's the way many smokers talk. "I'm not going to give up because I enjoy it too much". They confuse addiction with pleasure, whether deliberately or subconsciously, to justify not giving up.

If they can replicate syntho-alcohol, where the effects can be made to just disappear (never have been clear as how?), then why not replicate syntho'crack, again where the effects can be made to just disappear.

No more than dropping acid and going to see 2001.
I miss the 60s.

Like everything else on the holodeck, it would depend if the safeties were on or not.
The holodecks use replicator technology for much of what they produce. Presumably, anything ingestable. Therefore, I'd think that any drugs created would be real. The effects would be real.
