Well, Gremlins was the first thing that popped into my head too. I kinda want to start a tradition of making Gremlins the Christmas movie I watch every year.
Despite it being shown every Christmas for the last 40 years, is it ever actually Christmas in The Sound of Music?

For some reason the Wizard of Oz seems to get played alot on TV around Christmas as well not sure why?
In my parts, The Sound of Music is on this Sunday evening (Dec 28th). As for The Wizard of Oz, maybe its association with Christmas goes back to even before TV. Remember its featuring in A Christmas Story, which is set, I believe not long after Wizard's release?Despite it being shown every Christmas for the last 40 years, is it ever actually Christmas in The Sound of Music?

It's a popular family film, and around seasons like Christmas where "family time" is heavily encouraged and enjoyed it makes sense to show such movies. I don't recall the last time I saw "The Sound of Music" around this time of year though. It's usually earlier, at least in this part of the US.
Plus, they keep playing "My Favorite Things" as a Christmas song on the "Official Christmas" radio station my wife listens to!Despite it being shown every Christmas for the last 40 years, is it ever actually Christmas in The Sound of Music?
