Holiday movies that aren't really...

Well, Gremlins was the first thing that popped into my head too. I kinda want to start a tradition of making Gremlins the Christmas movie I watch every year.

Despite it being shown every Christmas for the last 40 years, is it ever actually Christmas in The Sound of Music?

For some reason the Wizard of Oz seems to get played alot on TV around Christmas as well not sure why?

Brazil - 1984- Dystopian Future Noir that takes place around Christmas time.

Still a favorite of mine, and I love finding new reasons to reference it. The gift giving and Christmas shopping scenes are obvious enough, but the European Version scenes of Mr. Helpmann visiting Sam in prison dressed as Santa really put it over the top in a great way!

It's a popular family film, and around seasons like Christmas where "family time" is heavily encouraged and enjoyed it makes sense to show such movies. I don't recall the last time I saw "The Sound of Music" around this time of year though. It's usually earlier, at least in this part of the US.

In my parts, The Sound of Music is on this Sunday evening (Dec 28th). As for The Wizard of Oz, maybe its association with Christmas goes back to even before TV. Remember its featuring in A Christmas Story, which is set, I believe not long after Wizard's release?

Plus, they keep playing "My Favorite Things" as a Christmas song on the "Official Christmas" radio station my wife listens to! :scream:

And don't get me started on damn Penguins!!!!!!!

I just realized one I hadn't thought of earlier: Dawn of the Dead (70s not the remake). You can see Christmas Decorations in a few scenes.

The coming of Christmas is a major plot point in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. It even has St. Nicholas in it. I still don't think I'd call it a "Christmas" movie, though.

And, although it was in the OP, Batman Returns was the first film I thought of when I saw the thread title. Maybe I'll show it to the kids at my youth group this weekend.
