Holiday Decorating, Star Trek style!

Yeoman Randi

Vice Admiral
Admiral
We do quite a bit of holiday decorating here, most of it rather traditional, except for the wreath we hang every year and the roping that goes up in our living room. Thought i would share and i hope anyone else who does a little bit of Star Trek themed decorating will add to the thread. Happy Holidays all!

Our wreath. I used old Hallmark ornaments that i purchased at a yard sale. I was told they were all broken, in that none of them lit up, so i got them for a couple of dollars each in the hopes that i would think of a use for them...and then it hit me! Put them on the wreath! All the electrical wires have been cut since they no longer worked.

I've been collecting the Hallmark ships and figural ornies since '98. My most favorite one is the '91 TOS Enterprise which i found on ebay:

Next are the figural ornaments, the episode situation ornaments and some really cool "televisions" that go over the bulbs.

Last but not least, one year i put the ornies on a tree, instead of on the roping. For that, i had to put my two favorite guys next to the tree. Not sure if they will see the light of day this year though. They tend to freak the dogs out!

I always put the Kirk in the captain's chair, Spock at his station and McCoy in the transporter room together for sentimental reasons.

Wow, wow, wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Randi, I love it! :D Those little TV's with episodes on them -- what are those?

Thanks Jeri!

The little TVs came on a string of lights i believe (it's been so long since i first got them, that i don't remember)....but i pulled them off so that they could go on my own lights. They are plastic and hollow, and each one has a different scene from a TOS episode. There are 10 televisions in all. You stick the light (from a string of lights) in the telly and they light up so you can see the picture. They are neat, arent they? :)

Here is one last picture ...taken stepped back so you can see how it all looks. Next to the Star Trek arch (hmmm, kind of appropriate--i should yell, "Computer, ARCH" when i go through) is our traditional gold and white tree. See? I'm not totally insane!

WOW! I would love to have a Christmas decor like that! That looks awesome! Once in place I would never want to put them away!!!

Yeoman Randi, Wonderful display!!!! Our ST tree with all my Hallmark ornaments did not go up this year. Actually, it did go up but it quickly came down. We got two new 8 week old kittens at the end of August. I put our trees, the 7' traditional green and 5' red Trek tree up in mid November - undecorated - so the cats would get used to them. No such luck. Oh, they were fine while we were home and had the water bottle in our hands. They learned to stay away. The problem occurred when we were at work. My son came home one day to find Belle winging in circles round and round off the top of the Star Trek tree. The welds in the tree that held it into the base were all snapped off so that was shot. Cat 1 - Tree 0. Well, the training went really with the big traditional tree - WRONG. Things appeared to be going well enough that I could string the lights. The idea was to just have lights turned on to get the cats used to those for a few days. Gracie was no problem, but Belle again....we found her in that tree after coming home from work on another day. I really hope to get the ST tree up next year. The ornaments going on should prove to be a real hoot. Here is Belle in the tree. (Note that this is the first time that I have ever posted a photo anywhere on line so I am only hoping at this point that it works. It seems to in the preview pane. Let me know if it didn't.)

Yeoman Randi, I LOVE the garland!

BBailey, I used to have a cat named Gracie. She was about 19 when she died. May yours "live long and prosper," too.

Thanks Jeri!

WOW that's great! I love how the trek decs and the gold all go together. Great stuff here.

bbailey861, that cat looks suspiciously Klingon... like that spy in The Trouble with Tribbles. I hope you can repatriate it.:klingon:

Very cool. I had a flashback to the episode where the shuttle is shrunk and flying around in the Defiant and thought, "how would they react if they flew through that door and saw all the other shrunken ships hanging around?" :)

^^I did try to squeeze in Trek names for the cats but no luck. That's OK though, I did manage to get my youngest daughter named Natasha (Tasha to all) Troi!!

Yeoman Randi, that is completely awesome. I love it all! Especially the little TV's.

Bbailey861, we have a cat named Gracie, too, and another cat who just turned 3. He's still not Christmas tree ready. He's one of the biggest busy bodies I have ever met in feline form, and that's saying a lot. I hope yours outgrow the badness earlier than ours has.

Thanks you guys! We really do enjoy it. Im so happy that i was able to share this with you guys. Because i only know one or two people in RL that are into Star Trek, not many people here appreciate the display.

For those of you who are not familiar with the Hallmark ornaments...most (if not all) of the ships have blinking lights or lights that stay lit. And most (if not all, i cant remember at this moment), have a character's voice that says something goofy like, the Galileo shuttlecraft that says in SPock's voice, "Live Long and Prosper, Happy Holidays!".

The episode ones also have the actor's voices saying things and something moves or blinks on them. The transporter one is awesome with the lights flashing.

They have a button which you press to 'engage' the voice or light action.

But when you plug in the string of lights that they are on, they ALL start talking at once. Between hearing "Live long and prosper" and "We are the Borg. Happy Holidays! Resistance is Futile" all going off at the same time, it's pretty funny. But that only happens when you first plug in the string.

OMG. that is so AWESOME that you got to name your daughter Tasha!! LOLing at that pic of your cat in the tree!!!!!!!! That is hilarious!!!

Wow, that's industrial-strength fandom -- naming your daughter a Trek name.

I never thought about all those ornaments talking at the same time! I only have one, and it says, "I'm Kathryn Janeway of the Federation ship, Delta Flyer; we're on a mission of peaceful exploration."

Jeri, they only all go off at once when you initially plug the string of lights (that they are on ), in. After that, they only "speak" when you push their button.
