(HMS) Surprise! Crowe to return as Jack Aubrey?

OH WOW!

Please, oh please, let this not be just a rumour or pie-in-the-sky dreams. Please let it happen...

That'd be exceptionally great - it's was criminal that the original movie didn't make enough money (in the suits' opinions) to guarantee an immediate sequel, as they had one ready to go, with Crowe and Bettany's contracts covering it

Thanks for the report! I'd be thrilled to see a new M&C flick. The first one was simply fantastic.

And I usually thoroughly detest Russell Crowe. LOL

They're going to recast Aubrey with Ben Affleck and make the bad guys neo-Nazis. :p

Space Nazis, actually. Aubrey will command a flying pirate ship with robot sailors and cannons that fire laser bolts.

In all seriousness, this is awesome news. M&C is a great movie, and one of the best treatments of 19th-century naval warfare I've ever seen.

Please let this be true. M&C is one of those rare historical type films that actually gets it right. Three cheers for Lucky Jack!

Add another voice to the choir of people yelling with joy. I love age of sail movies/books.

M&C is easily one of my favourites and it's one of those rare films that I can watch quite often without getting tired of it, so great news. I'm not usually much of a Crowe fan (quite the opposite in most cases) but this is one I've been really looking forward to.

I'm all in favor of a sequel to M&C, but is Peter Weir involved in this? His direction and sensibilities really helped make M&C what it was.

Cool, I loved the first movie, never imagined there could be a sequel, but then I didn't know it was based on a series of novels. Maybe those are the best sequels ... the ones you don't expect.

I hope this happens. M&C is one of my favorite movies. I've even been aboard the HMS Surprise used in the movie, which is docked at the Harbor Museum alongside the Star of India in San Diego.

Moreover, I'd love to see Horatio Hornblower get the M&C treatment.
